There was a glitch on Twitch yesterday when watching % wasn’t being updated - it was suggested there was some big event in Brazil that was overloading the poor wee system.
But it all came right after a bit.
Much better being able to watch at a time that is reasonable for my time zone than having to wake up at 0300!! :)
But you’ve never done either a historical or semi-historical skin in Twitch drops, so unless something changes… Invisible.
I know, you can see it yourself, and others can if they select fictional but… At least in ground, it just seems riskier to turn on fictional skins (why give the enemy any more camo) and there’s also a non-zero risk in your own tank looking different on your screen than the enemy sees if you run a fictional camo on yourself.
Fictional camoes are fine for streamers and people playing tournaments live but if given a choice I’m running with all fictional settings off, so at the moment neither of these (actually historical) camoes has any value.
I have no idea how the team chooses how to categorize the in-game skins, i have no connection to that at all and zero insight into that side of things.
But according to the War Thunder wiki for when users create their own camouflages for War thunder Live the classifications are like this:
So i just assumed going with that information that it would be Semi-Historical. But i don’t actually know.
I assumed that about the Panther camo, but no. And it’s called “212, 6th Panzer Division, Rhineland, 1945”, and it is a historical camo for Panthers (of course the Panther F never saw active service, but plenty of vehicles have “historical” camoes from other vehicles in the same family now).
Good point. Yeah, I’m sure there’s a couple more I’ve forgotten… I was thinking more tournament camo box camoes, which are all appropriately fictional. But most of the Twitch ones have also been fictional. But that’s just a good reason why these two should be changed to at least “semi-historical”.
Update: Panther F camo has had its “fictional” tag taken away, but not replaced with another tag. So apparently now it has no tag on it at all, so I’m not sure if that means it displays under default settings or not.
I am not sure if these show up in a battle with the “Fictional” camos turned off in a player’s settings. But just wanted to share that there are more examples lacking tags if that helps with testing/checking.
If you like, I could do a match with you and we could test to know exactly how it works. Send me a DM if you would like a hand 👍
So they did away with the historical/semi-historical distinction a while back. The options menu now only has the option to go with “any” or “except fictional” (the default). So it stands to reason anything without a tag shows up for others.
