HISTORY
German Designation of tha tank: Sturmgeschütz III
This was developed and built By the Germans

This was the second most produced German combat vehicle during World War 2. It is built on a slightly modified Panzer III chassy.

This wagon was developed on the basis of the KW III. The first of the roughly 1,000 wagons, which were produced up to 1945, were used during the campaign in France in 1940. The wagon was initially a fire support wagon without a turret with a light field cannon mounted in the front. During the war, this vehicle was also upgraded a number of times and by the end of the war had been transformed into a tank destroyer with a fairly powerful anti-tank gun. The vehicle, together with the KW III, was used in all theaters of war where the Germans fought. After the war, it was used by a number of countries, including Finland (which then got its first wagons during the war)

Many were abandoned by retreating German forces, These wagons also came to Norway with the Germans, who then used them together with the KW III. After the war, these carriages were also destroyed and sabotaged by the British, but several were restored afterwards and used by the cavalry. Most of these were taken into use by the so-called “airport troops” together with KW III where they then served until the 1950s. Unfortunately, it is now a bit uncertain exactly where these wagons ended up after they were taken out of Norwegian service and there is a possibility that some of them were sold or given away to Finland.

These wagons were as mentioned of various quality, and some were also upgraded with extra Armour, Zimmerit-mine paste and Schurzen-armour (side plates)
