This is an incredibly well formatted post. Very neat, well written, plenty of good questions and polls.
However, unfortunately, I say no.
Why?
Look at Stat shark. Stat shark, after entering the community, causes one thing and one thing only. Toxicity. People chose to discredit arguments simply because a player disagrees or has a worse player rating then them. Sometimes its fair; but also, their are plenty of times where it isn’t. This is I would argue already an issue on the forums, however we are lucky enough that the forums are well separated from the game and only a small portion of players choose to really engage with the forums.
Now, take this toxicity, multiply it by 20, and add it to every single player in the game. It is bound to go over incredibly poorly. It would drive me, and I am sure plenty of other players, far away from the game.
TL:DR; The use of statshark on the forums shows that if SBMM entered the game, toxicity and poor sportsmanship (or whatever you want to call it) would be rampant and it would ruin the game as we know it.
TLDR…at any rate matching should first look at time played. a 100 hour player vs a 10k hour player in no way makes any sense. One has brand new crews, doesnt know maps or where to shoot while the other is maxed across the board and simply is farming KD. All this does is scare people away.
Stats have destroyed every single game its ever been put into. Take World of Warcraft, different genre but same thing occurred. Gear score apps came in and now you had this new filter to gauge people against. Got so bad Blizzard forced the removal of the stats it used.
Destiny 2…Raid Report and Trials Report ruined it as well. Now you are gauged off numbers you may or may not have had any ability to control.
Only stats should be allowed are the ones currently in game. Remember also whoever makes that website is financially benefitting off adds using your data.
one idea that could make your suggestion relevant would be to implement the bungie era halo skill based matchmaking (the best one ever), one game you face stronger opponents, the other weaker opponents, etc.
Also the SBMM should be balanced by only giving you stronger players to fight when top tier, and weaker when low tier, the other way around is just not possible.
Absolutely, all the additions of premium vehicles have made the average match 3 players do everything while the remaining 1 death leave. At least an option of skill based match making/ranked would return some skill and engagement in matches.
BR has become utterly pointless. It used to mean you had more skilled enemies AND team mates, resulting in longer, more interesting matches
Making the game more enjoyable, like what Nuclear Thunder did, would be a better direction. Not becoming a sweat fest.

There’s already competitive events for GE and rewards actively ran by the managers.
Yeah, no, the more I play the more I realize the only people who would complain about SBMM are people who are only mad because they won’t be able to seal-club anymore.
You know how to play, but who says the guy who just started doesn’t know how? I’m sorry, but if you’re too good and you run into him 20 times a day, do you really think a guy who just started using Tinder is going to stick around? He won’t stick around, he will stick around. There are good players and bad players, players who are too good. The really good players, play with them. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.
To succefully sealclub people will have to work for it, smurf accounts or simply spend time crashing your rating and it will temporary since eventually you will find yourself in your own league.
If now it would take time and work for simply a limited window to abuse, people will try to use it to the maximum.
Where does it end? People will spam meta planes vs noobs… one clubber will now be 100% of the time a full sweat meta abuser, and those are pretty common already…
The true solution is to improve tutorials, the “noobs” don’t have basic concepts or strategies because they are not found anywhere in game.
The most useful tips outside of “how to move and aim” are the “APCR does poor post pen damage”, “bullets have drop off”, “press spacebar 2 time for IR missiles” and takeoff and landing for simulator battles.
The most advanced ones are missile tutorials… a simply “how to press the trigger”.
No wonder newbies don’t know weakspots, overpressure, flanking, boom and zoom, etc.
they need to look outside the game and look for tutorials or ask people on reddit or the forums.
Let’s not mention vehicle stat cards… those are complete lies…
Only useful statcards are those of shells but gaijin doesn’t teach to read those, doesn’t even teach you to unlock your cursor and hover over the icon in order to see it.
i think warthunder simply isnt a game where sbmm would work. sbmm works in multiplayergames that fundamentally can be balanced by simple increase or decreases of numbers like “damage”. Warthunder it WAY to complex and based on too many stats like reload, pen, post-pen-damage, mobility, turret rotation, and fundamental functions like stabilization, thermals and so on. even thought player skill is a noticable part of part of whether you win or lose a match, vehicle capability is way more important (F-14 on launch, Mig-23 on launch, 2S38, Terminator and so on come to mind instantly). unless the BR system is made in a way that somehow every vehicle is PERFECTLY balanced SBMM simply would be gasoline on a fire that makes this game way more complex than it already is.
even though this is a nice thought its simply the wrong game to implement this mechanic.
In my opinion, the only way I can see skill-based matchmaking being a viable option is if we get proper voice communication, which does not exist. I cannot talk to the random in a random match, only in a squad or squadron. So if I am trying to make a callout, im forced to use a system many disable. Simply because it gets incredibly annoying.
On the other hand: This could improve the battle ranking system so things aren’t being overtiered for no reason.
