Skill-based Matchmaking

no

Good suggestion, well written, and I’ll give you credit for that. However, I have to disagree with the proposal. My concern is that War Thunder is ultimately a very niche game, which could be easily destabilized, especially with the negative below:

Along with other unforeseen consequences, IMO there are far too many risks that outweigh the benefits.

On a side note, I would prefer to see a soft or pseudo-SBMM mechanism implemented in the game that prevents professional players and sealclubbers from farming newbies in low-tier battles. I believe low players with low hours should be allowed to play each other before they meet the criteria. Then, with sufficient hours and experience, they will be introduced into advanced battles with 100-level players. Of course, it doesn’t solve the potential smurf issue, but I think that idea needs to be explored more.

while i think SBMM is a horrible idea, it already exists in WT so you haven’t exactly beat gaijin to it.

SBM would help a lot with team mates as they are literally lobotomy victims at times while the enemy team has beta veterans its not very fair
but they also need to account for vehicles as the match maker is not always fair with them for example 6.7 uptier youll have like 2 T44s on your team while the enemy has 6 T26E5s completely unfair

Adding SBMM could significantly increase matchmaking times, and this mechanism requires the game to continuously attract new players to remain sustainable. Furthermore, given the large number of players concentrated in top-tier matches, implementing this mechanism might make it difficult to fill lower-tier matches.

It happens but this would nuke the matchmaker but its a rare well put together post.

I agree with your sentiment that SBMM would destroy the already unstable health of the playerbase (BMPT has killed top tier for example) but i have to disagree with a couple things

niche in what it offers (bad as theres no competitor games) but not niche in playerbase size

when i was a new player i honestly thought matches were bot lobbys only until i got sealclubbed a few times, low tier players are really bad and such trash players could easily put people off the game just as much as endless sealclubbery.

level 100 only means they got X amount of XP from whatever, they may have done this with only naval, yet that would mean their match in another mode would be instantly in the colosseum of veterans

This is an incredibly well formatted post. Very neat, well written, plenty of good questions and polls.

However, unfortunately, I say no.

Why?
Look at Stat shark. Stat shark, after entering the community, causes one thing and one thing only. Toxicity. People chose to discredit arguments simply because a player disagrees or has a worse player rating then them. Sometimes its fair; but also, their are plenty of times where it isn’t. This is I would argue already an issue on the forums, however we are lucky enough that the forums are well separated from the game and only a small portion of players choose to really engage with the forums.

Now, take this toxicity, multiply it by 20, and add it to every single player in the game. It is bound to go over incredibly poorly. It would drive me, and I am sure plenty of other players, far away from the game.

TL:DR; The use of statshark on the forums shows that if SBMM entered the game, toxicity and poor sportsmanship (or whatever you want to call it) would be rampant and it would ruin the game as we know it.

TLDR…at any rate matching should first look at time played. a 100 hour player vs a 10k hour player in no way makes any sense. One has brand new crews, doesnt know maps or where to shoot while the other is maxed across the board and simply is farming KD. All this does is scare people away.

Stats have destroyed every single game its ever been put into. Take World of Warcraft, different genre but same thing occurred. Gear score apps came in and now you had this new filter to gauge people against. Got so bad Blizzard forced the removal of the stats it used.
Destiny 2…Raid Report and Trials Report ruined it as well. Now you are gauged off numbers you may or may not have had any ability to control.

Only stats should be allowed are the ones currently in game. Remember also whoever makes that website is financially benefitting off adds using your data.

one idea that could make your suggestion relevant would be to implement the bungie era halo skill based matchmaking (the best one ever), one game you face stronger opponents, the other weaker opponents, etc.

Also the SBMM should be balanced by only giving you stronger players to fight when top tier, and weaker when low tier, the other way around is just not possible.

Absolutely, all the additions of premium vehicles have made the average match 3 players do everything while the remaining 1 death leave. At least an option of skill based match making/ranked would return some skill and engagement in matches.

BR has become utterly pointless. It used to mean you had more skilled enemies AND team mates, resulting in longer, more interesting matches

Do you really trust gaijin to implement such a system???

I don’t want to play Warthunder: Black Ops 7
