J11A is not fully indigenous its basically licensed production using parts from russia
they are just assembling them

pl12a was really just made as a stopgap for china and a cheap export missile china doesnt use them china uses pl15 17 for radar missiles

Your understanding is incorrect. A 2012 paper explicitly mentioned that China’s long-range air-to-air missiles increased their range to 120 km by improving the rocket engine’s nuclear fuel. Changes to the model names of equipment in China are very precise, and such changes generally only exist between different production batches.

Well the 70° are most likley correct since china uses fixed aesa’s for almost every plane and there are no signs of side mounted aesa Modules either.

From another perspective, the blue inert training missile carried under the fuselage of the J-10C at the Zhuhai Airshow 2024, marked with the prefix “JLP12AE”, most likely corresponds to a training round of the PL-12AE. In contrast, the PL-12 missiles previously observed on the J-15T at earlier airshows were marked with a “P12” prefix.
Moreover, the physical characteristics of that blue training round displayed at the airshow do not match those seen in this image.

Second Edit:

I have found several reference images of PL-12 training rounds. I suspect that, due to sharpening and AI-based enhancement applied to the low-resolution image, the serial numbers on the forward section of the missile body were distorted and appear as a horizontal stripe.

Before the PL-15 was developed, China was still using the PL-12A, an improved version that increased the propellant and radar accuracy. This was due to the rapid update and iteration, and now the PL-15 is commonly used. In fact, the performance of the PL-12A is still excellent.

also the perspective is distorting the strips, if they were those of the PL-12AE they would be even smaller also the PL-12AE stripes would be angled

And where did you get that info from? since there is no public info on the PL-12A

A 70° radar search range is fine, but when I’m in a game, I can’t directly scan the missiles launched by the enemy aircraft within 20km. It takes 5 seconds to detect them. Is this really aesa? It seems like there’s a double standard for Chinese radars.

idk what to tell you the chn aesa is already on the better side when it comes to those with similar search angles

At the Zhuhai Airshow, others captured photos of the J15T replacing the PL12A. The projectile is one-fifth longer than the PL12, and its export type PL12ae also indicates an improvement in range and propellant compared to the SD-10, which is also the export type PL12

That is exactly right. Using the J-10C after using the Rafale feels like wearing glasses over your contact lenses.

In the new update, the search frequency of AESA has been reduced, but I didn’t expect it to be so low. Now China’s radar is even worse than the Su30SM2 radar

can i have the picture, cause ive never seen it, also designation wise PL-12A and PL-12AE dont have to be necessarily related (see PL-11A and PL-11AE), furthermore the SD-10 is not the PL-12, the SD-10A is. SD-10 != SD-10A = PL-12

what was changed was the update time of the targets shown in TWS to like 0.0416 seconds for most ESA radars
