Integrated Electronic Self-Protection Pod Produced by CETC
The Integrated Electronic Self-Protection Pod for Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) UAVs is primarily designed to provide warnings against and jamming of air defense radars and surface-to-air missiles. It disrupts and suppresses the precision guidance capabilities of enemy radar and electro-optical guided weapons, thereby achieving medium-to-long-range and short-range defense for the UAV. The self-protection pod consists of several subsystems, including infrared warning, laser warning, radar warning, passive/active decoy jamming, radar jamming, and directional infrared jamming.
The product employs passive methods to detect and receive signals such as electro-optical and microwave radiation from threat targets, thereby better ensuring the safety of the UAV. Its countermeasure capabilities cover the visible light, infrared, and millimeter-wave bands. In response to incoming ground-based missile attack scenarios, it automatically generates jamming and decoy deployment strategies. By deploying infrared/flares and chaff countermeasures and executing directional infrared jamming according to these strategies, the pod can counter all currently advanced electro-optical precision-guided weapons in service. With comprehensive coverage of jamming frequency bands, it effectively enhances the battlefield survivability of the UAV.
We only know right now that the radar is supposed to be angled up, similar to the J-10C’s radar. I do believe J-15T is currently using N011 (Bars) radar model as a placeholder.
one thing, im pretty sure it can use more than 2x YJ-83s technically, i dont see why 4x KD-88s can be used but not YJ-83 when they’re very similar, we got all the other imaginary “what if” things
Funny thing is, I don’t think we even know the real designation for the J-11D/J-15T’s AESA radar. I heard from some circles that the J-16’s radar is apparently 1493D. So it will be interesting to see what Gaijin comes up with.
