The game doesn’t model that level of detail. All aircraft have a single heat signature in the centre of the aircraft. This has been dementated by people locking missiles onto bombers with engines far apart and observing how the missile always flies for centre of mass, rather than one of the engines.
well it does model it so some degree of detail when it comes to different aspect shots otherwise I would be able to lock an aim 9 b onto the front of an aircraft, also helicopters have their exaust heat signatures modeled cause its hard to lock them from the front with SAM Ir missiles
Well it looks like I might stand corrected.
If it is just a central heat source would not not just require Gaijin slapping a modifier on it and calling it a day.
Since you have a manual that includes the AV-8C:
- was it ever capable of being fitted with the ALE-37 CMs pod
- could it carry up to the AIM-9L Sidewinder, or just AIM-9D, G, and H?
For ALE-37 the answer is yes AN;37/a can be fitted and to any pylon you could in theory take 5
For AIM9L the answer is also Yes D/G/H/L all in the manual
Please submit a bug report for the AV-8C to get the ALE-37 pod, PLEASE
That’s the AV-8A. The AV-8C I think only gets 60 built in, no ALE-37 pod (despite the fact that it should)
No lol the manual is for all models. C included
Why would the more advanced one not get what the previous models had?
I think he means that in-game only the AV-8A (and AV-8S) get the 240 CM pod. The AV-8C is limited to the standard 60 and is asking if it too could get the 240 CM pod.
But I wonder whether there is a conflict between the internal CM pod and the external pod. Because iirc, all CMs on the AV-8A come from the external pod. If there is no conflict, then I would guess the C didnt use it because it had the internal and that would be an up-hill battle to prove that it could unless it was specifically stated to be an option
(an example of this would be getting the TMC rocket pods that can be found on the Harrier Gr3 onto the Sea Harrier or getting Napalm bombs on the Harrier Gr1 also onto the Harrier Gr3)
That said it seems gaijin has gone and confused everyone based off of them not knowing what they are talking about in regards to the Harrier. The external stores options is directly applicable for all USMC Harriers (Gen 1) as it is covered AV-8A/C/TAV
The AV-8C got the AN:ALE-39
Gaijin gave the C the wrong RWR actually
The A did not have LIDS on the aden pods
So I could get some things potentially changed but I am an advocate for historical accuracy so the RWR would need to be downgraded.
and I am in no way surprised by that.
Yes, you are exactly right. I know the AV-8A originally didn’t have the ALE-37 on release, instead getting it after a few months to possibly a year after update New Power (whereas the AV-8C always had the 60 CMs in the two built-in dispensers).
It bugs me that a premium plane that was initially considered worse ended up becoming better via getting over a hundred more CMs than the TT variant.
AV-8A never had internal CM. IDK why the C doesn’t have the pod.
I actually thought it did and that is stupid.
Yeah… Meanwhile the Harrier Gr1…
/cries
The AV-8A and AV-8S are insane aircaft for their BR purely due to CM count
Nope, Gaijin just never did anything with it. Aside from maybe a few bug fixes here and there (like the incorrect RWR), Gaijin’s done virtually nothing with the C.
I have a source claiming Gr.3 where fitted with Zues in 85.
I’m really disappointed with Gaijin over there treatment of the Harrier.
Oh my god, don’t even get me started on the GR.1.
ALE-37 pod should be added, SRAAMs need to be fixed, etc
Truth be told, the GR.1 could honestly benefit by getting the later uprated engine, and being re-designated as Harrier GR.1A.
