Sea Harrier FA2 - Balance Concern and possible Solutions

I think when facing jets without SARH you would simply stay high and fire from up high 9ls and AMRAAMS… Shame that at these brs we face the metric spam of f4s and mig 23s who would hound you down to the ends of the earth after stealing a base from a bomber.

Yeah, the main advantage of the SHar is totally mitigated in game. Most aircraft typically dont actually fly all that high. Generally around 20k ft. As their engines were more fuel effecient (was especially the case for the Tornado F3, in fact the F3 needed Afterburner to keep up with a SHar flying at 30k ft)

Because the SHar actually really liked high alt, and could cruise rather effeciently at that height (and in fact could generally reach that alt in a similar time to the F3 iirc) then they could actually out stick most aircraft they encountered because they were firing with a height advantage.

Issue is, in RB fuel means basically nothing and you just dont have time to climb to gain that advantage, and everyone else doesnt need to worry about fuel and so just burns fuel to also reach that alt. In SB, you can, but the maps are too small to properly take advantage and things like Super Contrails just make it hard to begin with, not too mention everyone with radars of equal performance.

But the FA2 should still be interesting aircraft to fly. Im looking forward to it in Sim (once the stock grind is over) but I am hoping for some new EC brackets, maybe a 11.7-12.3 bracket would be good.

The sea harrier cannot function if its within 10km of any enemy jets at 10.7, its just going to be far, far worse at 12.3.

But that’s exactly my point. So far it looks like Gaijin wants it to be a plane that’s forced to do BVR combat. Which means take off, firing off all AIM-120s at the most opportune distant targets, and then immediately fly back to the AF. Rinse and repeat.

And just as a side note, I refuse to engage in this so I will never equip AIM-120s on that plane. Flying unarmed and defenceless whilst playing a point-and-click adventure? I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could enjoy that.

Not to mention the FA2 is supposed to have advanced ECM and other things that would help it fend off other point-and-click adventurers.

For the record, I have a few kills of the F-5 (mostly C, of course) with the FRS1e. With guns as well!

First of all, no idea how you ever managed to kill an f5 with guns as im already dead to the first guy that gets on my ass (Basically the same as the tornado when i used to play near the ground).

Luckly the shar is a british jet, and therefore shouldnt have the f14 player base using it like how you said. But the shar at any br above 10.7 will be relegated to playing at the edge of combat in sim and rb, its never going to be able to compete as it doesnt have hmd or the flight performance of the harrier 2s, so at most youll be figthing other gen 3s of at the side lol. If people play it how you said then i would expect the br to tank rapidly as it is not a very smart way of playing, and will end up with more TKs than anything else tbh.

Headons, them basically energytrapping themselves, thirdpartying. You know, the usual critical mistakes. Gunning people down is what I focus on, really, as I don’t enjoy missile thunder that much. And I’m flying Harriers mostly because I’m not flying any of that foreign muck 🤮

Not sure what you mean there mate. But I get to face the Yanks whilst flying the GR7 quite often.

Meant we wouldnt be having that many brainlets that take off, launch ARH missiles, rtb and expect a kill or two.
