Scouting Through Scout UAVs

Its a 7,5kg (at least the IRL thign after which it is moddeled) plastic drone. That thing should be obliterated by 7.62mm, let alone missile.

Of course, they are doing this for a reason.

Now it would be good to have permanent top tier ground simulator battles or at least another pool for br between 10.0 to 12.7 because it is annoying to have to wait a week to play.

THANK YOU. This is actually huge.

they should move the scout drones to rank 7 and 8 already

The biggest issue with anything direct fired is being able to hit it, it’s not that easy hitting something that moves with small arms fire. Though anything that is radar guided shouldn’t have that issue. Smaller calibers likely also need to hit vital parts to damage it enough for it to lose control, it’s not like a 7.62 explodes where it hits, it just makes a hole and if there are no moving/vital parts there then the drone should still be able to fly.

Example of what i'm imagining but with a Styrofoam RC plane shoot with paintballs

The paintball shooting starts at about 3 minutes in to the video

The threat is being spotted, not CAS.

ah yes, a paintball, something that has the same energy as 7.62mm.

why not show 7.62mm hitting a plastic drone?

what’s need to be reworked is the detection system, mainly having a line of sight to scout with ground vehicles. With your utterly game breaking change, scout drone should be locked to rank VII and VIII for attack drones.

you could already do this by marking and scouting. this update makes it much less effective

I’ll admit my example isn’t the best, it was just there as a visual representation more than anything else. But quadcopters aren’t really the same either as they can’t fly without one of their motors, they are often built in a way without any “empty” space at all and no matter where you hit you take out wither components or structural integrity. Comparatively a flying wing drone has a lot more of “empty” space and a lot of places that can have holes without losing structural integrity to the point of losing the ability to fly.

I’m not saying the in-game drones are perfect, far from it. But i don’t think small arms would do as much damage as you think (i might be wrong though and i’m fully prepared to concede my point if proven wrong).

Entire drone is clearly some sort of plastic.

And, on what you assume it has lot of empty space? Specifics might slightly vary based on version, but engine that can reach speed of up to 110km/h, serrvos to handle control surfaces, onboard computer that has to control all other systems, camera with thermals, antenae to transmit live video feed up to 30km and recieve commands from up to 50km, and most importantly, battery to keep it all powered for 4 hours. Either its all tightly packed in the body of the drone, in which case a hit to the body should easily disable it, or its spread out in the wings too, meaning its not empty and hit to the wing should absolutely affect the drone.

This video clearly shows how much energy is transfered when the projectile comes into contact with target:

And this video shows what happens when you hit a macbook with different rounds. Granted, not a drone, but its close enough.

Do you see exit holes on some of these notebooks? and notice how they are all firmly held to the table? Flying drone does not have such luxury of being anchored. The energy transfer from the bullet would be much worse.

7.62mm would absolutely obliterate a warthunder scout drone. not to mention .50cal.

Perhaps unpopular, but I think this change is completely fine. I don’t think it will be overpowered or lead to people sitting in spawn any more than usual. Nice work

Putting this here as feedback about the mechanic since it was in the patch notes that fewer people read.

There is now a 3 second delay when switching back to the ground vehicle after the player’s Scout UAV gets destroyed. This is to give the player time to understand how they were destroyed.

This should not happen.
Those things are hard enough to kill as it is.
If I successfully manage to hit one of those buggers with a high explosive shell or a missile larger than it containing more explosive filler than the drone physically weighs that drone is gone, reduced to atoms.

Drone operator should not get one final look around the battlefield after being obliterated

Oh, the Holy Snail! May one inquire if there is more devblog tonight?

Cool, so you refuse to fix the bug and instead double down on this dog water bug as a mechanic. I dont think I have ever seen a more asinine decision taken.

Why even add scout option to drones if you can still bypass the distance of 1.5-3km by simply switching back to tank and scouting through terrain. thats insane logic if you ask me

EDIT:

Spoiler

I cannot even make this stuff up lmao, well over the 3000 meter range to the aiming point and can still spot beyond that range using UAV by switching to tank lmao. at least implement it properly holy moly.

There is already an arcade mode, why do we need another one??

Cool. Now “realistic” “ground” battles will actually be arcade ground 2.0. No vegetation or cover on big open maps, cramped sub 1km maps and on both now everyone will have a big red ! following him around for 30 seconds (how realistic man, especially since somehow every plane flying around closer than 10 km can also see that giant red ! wandering around the map that has broken line of sight to the light tank that scouted it 20 seconds ago, wonder how that works. HMDs in the 80s certainly were something else).

As if it wasnt stupid enough to be able to scout through entire building blocks by soundqueueing in freelook and just press scout on the engine sounds general direction or put a squad marker, switch back to tank and scout the marker now all of these shenanigans (that at least sometimes failed) wont even be necessary anymore. And after it wears out, you’ll just have it again. I mean its not like on the small standard maps you wouldnt already know where people will be sitting just when the match starts (yes, its one of the 4 positions that you go to to shoot ppl in the sides or block their early first wave timmy)

Man the snail certainly never disappoints with additions of mechanics that no one asked for and that will only turn this vehicle “combat” “simultator” (as some people hilariously called it) into call of duty in tanks. Understandable since apparently someone in management seems to believe that will equal more players will equal more money, but I’m not sure if throwing everything right out the window that once made this game unique is worth it in the long run

Not a fan, the cool down is already too long between successful scouts…don’t get me started on when it doesn’t scout someone you can clearly see
