SAAF JAS-39C Technical Data and Discussion

I’m just happy the Gripen has some more identity now, and isn’t just a copy-paste radar from the F16D. We can’t always expect just buffs, I believe @Gunjob did the report/research for this one, I’m a bit surprised by it just having 45° vertical scan, but maybe it’s accurate idk

So long as they have also fixed the phantom radar contact bug that I reported months ago

if you have proof of it being wrong feel free to share and we can cooperate on a bug-report :)

Going to take it for a spin in sim now, the old radar (F16D) is incredible, I love the 50° TWS scan it had so I’m definitely going to miss that radar mode but we’ll see if the other ones feel good.

I’m not sure on the vertical scan limits, but the actually detection/processing power of the radar should be massively improved.

Proof the blue vixen is better than the AN/APG-66?..

Changes. Horizontal from 120 -60 60 to 140 -70 70, vertical from 120 -60 60 to 90 -45 45(will be changed back soon). Acm from 6x7 to 6x6, other modes 10x50 20 degree offset up and 10x30. HMD from 3x5 to 4x4. Harder to notch. When you fly behind someone even with 0 m/s relatvie speed it will keep PD. Changes in scope scales. Base one from 60x13 to 60x11 for all. No idea about the rest as i do not have them, currently they are 20x6 and 140x6 (beam changed from oval to circular). Ranges are 19 37 74 148km.

The new PS-05A is modelled off the Blue Vixen as per my report.

I’ve raised the 45+/- degree limit for tracking, should be 60+/-, scan limit is 45+/-. Simple mistake to make.

The elevation limits will be corrected in the next small update.

Where does it say it?

Its just the search area;

the “size of the box” not how high the radar can elevate.

so the 45 will be changed to 60 in SRC, right?

Yes in the next micro update, won’t have to wait that long.

Ok thanks. I read it that in Scan it will be able to use only 90 while in track it will go up to 120. My mistake

Full area is 140 degree in azimuth and 120 in elevation. (70+/- & 60 +/-)

Do you know if this has been fixed?

Been a big reason I’ve not been bothering with the Gripen or F3 much of late, because the radars are driving me nuts

That’s not going to be impacted by this change.

Damn, hoped it was radar related, but I guess it’s a wider problem then

Which vertical limits will apply to the TWS?

You should be able to elevate the radar to +60°
