Well, in actual battles though.
Stat shark is cool but IMO there’s a lot more that goes on during fights vs on paper values.

In actual battles it’s a brick you feel the extra weight especially now with full ordinance, not to mention you bleed speed a far more than before or at least it feels that way, basically just feels terrible to fly imo
@Necronomica Would you happen to know the wing area of both the old style and new style wing for the Gripen E or are most/all values the same?
No idea sadly.
Hmm, what’s the accepted value you’ve seen or heard for the 39E in general? I’m seeing 31 meters cubed for wing area of the Gripen E in most sites that list values
That’s not something i’ve looked into sorry. I did briefly look at it for the C (i think the messages can be found in the C thread) but got stuck because it’s unclear if the websites include the canards in the wing area or not.
Fair enough. Just trying to see and er calculate wing area from the 39C vs the 39E.
I know it’s only a small change but would like to find out the value.
Also, with the update, seems like the Gripen E doesn’t have ESM screen, in which you’d think a plane like the Gripen E that usually advertises its avionics and EW suite, would have ESM screen.
Then again, no actual ARMs for this thing for now…
Attempting to do a little more digging but so far, some sources state 30m3 or 31m3. It’s pretty vague-ish though since I haven’t see SAAB mention anything about wing area for the Gripen E either.
Trying to find more sources for the wing area of the Gripen E but a bit hard to come by, though one of them is this (third party though, take with grain of salt), saying it’s 31m3: https://web.archive.org/web/20170809225814/https://aviationweek.com/site-files/aviationweek.com/files/uploads/2014/09/asd_09_25_2014_jas7.pdf
Some say 30m3 but unsure if it’s referring to the earlier Gripen models (considering the 39E got a slight wingspan increase, even if minuscule), or it’s what it had, prior to receiving new wings.
they said for now that planes with no ARMs on it wouldn’t get ESM even though I see no reason to give ESMs to aircraft without ARMs.
Would be nice to have regardless and have another tool to have for situational awareness against ground, or for air, have the ability to roughly track your target without potentially giving away your own position.
Could be really nice for sim, I love being a lil F-22 rat and sneaking up on people, the IRST is nice for that but the range is pretty limited, it would be nice to be able to track targets from way further
Along with ESM, Low Probability of Intercept Radars, if implemented correctly, would be very scary. One of the main perks for the AESA radars.
It should be added for situational awareness and/or being aware of where munitions ought be sent. It’s a joke that it isn’t detached from ARMs for modern platforms.
I considered it to be absurd too that it’s tied directly to ARMs rather than being introduced as a separate mechanic that also aids in ARMs but is added for everyone else that can use ESM.
@k_stepanovich I don’t take this lightly to ping you but I think it’s been awhile since you’ve been pinged as well as that this is something that the community feels is important. ESM should be added to all planes that are able to support it without needing ARMs, including planes that do not utilize ARMs. Is there any reason why ESM is so tightly dependent on ARMs when it could be a useful tool that could be added to planes that don’t have ARMs? In fact, aircraft that don’t utilize ARMs at top tier are the ones that really need the ESM tool the most arguably.
Money’s on “No one spends on minor trees so why bother for them”.
The performance nerf is definitely feelable, prior to the update i could at least hold up with other 4.5 gens, now after 3–4 turns i kinda just fall out of the air it feels like
Same. I’ve migrated down to the JA37C to play something competitive, the JAS39E has been relegated to a glide bomb bus for me. And to think I was so excited about it being added.
They’ve a tendency to burn Sweden players. Shouldn’t have gotten excited over something coming to the tree. Especially something so easily butchered.
