Should be the case.
Here’s another interview, one with Jussi ( Gripen-E test pilot ) confirming that any track, even passive or 3rd party source is enough for weapons lock.
me when i lie
Huh ?
there’s absolutely 0 way for him to get a lock on air craft using completely passive sensors. for example, mig-23s irst is a passive device that has no laser. how is that detectable?
I don’t know all the intimate functions of the SkyWard-G but considering there is quite the age gap, I have no doubt it is several time more advanced than the MiG23’s system.
Why would it be implausible that skyward would be able to track and then relay target information from that track to the Gripens systems.
I’ve heard that the E-Gripen’s IRST is installed to detect things that cannot be detected by radar, such as stealth cruise missiles. If this is true, isn’t it possible?
Honestly, no matter what way you are getting the targets coordinates you will be able to relatively easily make any missile fire towards that vector and lock on after launch. Not only that but you can also quite easily induce the targets flight direction and send any missile in a direction where the target is heading so that it also leads the target and loses less energy. During the entire flight of the missile you can update the targets position and direction through datalink.
This patent is from 1992, it’s 32 years old at this point:
US5282013A - Passive ranging technique for infrared search and track (IRST) systems - Google Patents.
Now imagine that description but with todays technology where machine learning can make such tasks relatively trivial.
It can calculate range from The iR source frequency, and able to calculate a very accurate range, also calculating heading, and velocity, while rafale uses laser for that, gripen uses TMA which is fully passive, same as f35
Also IR TWS would be awesome
They only fixed the issue with Gripen flipping over to the back with some loadouts.
Looks like they basically extended the rear gear and increased the piston strength of them but didn’t adjust the front wheel at the same time, so now it’s almost as if it’s walking on stilts lol
Looks like Gaijin has beef with the Swedes 👀
I realy wish theyd actually add this
Can someone make a suggestion to add Amraam C8, which have 180 degree offbore launch capability, im lazy :D
I dont know if this format is acceptable for a report ticket
