doesnt C-8 not have GPS as an export missile? similar airframe but worse electronics
IIRC both AIM-120C-8 and 120Ds are from the F3R hardware program so they would be similar in the hardware department. Software department would be different though, with the 120D using the SIP T3 for the US and close allies, while the 120C-8 has a different software set for export usage.
I guess in the war thunder sense they’d be the same missiles.
Meh, would be nice to have the C-8 now and not be stuck with the C-5.
Would likely give gaijin a good enough reason to bump it to 14.7
I mean…the J-10C is at 14.3 with PL-12As
And the J35J is 10.7 in sim with no flares and the XS is 10.3
Yeah there’s a lot of issues with the BR ratings regardless (cough cough Su-30MKKs)
If it did get C-8s, shouldn’t be a reason it gets bumped after the couple nerfs it had gotten.
If we get Meteors then that’s a different story.
I’m surprised this one survived, like yeah, it’s not clipping but i highly doubt the spacing is enough to be called safe for ejector racks :P
Te AIM-120C should be fine though, the RB99 not so much lol.
IOG drift is wholly irrelevant in air to air missile. Literally AFK plane will move significantly more by just accelerating in straight line than whatever 1m/s of drift is gonna do to you
gnss in war thunder helps to connect top down shots on situations where the missile can’t get a lock and you have datalink, despite iog missiles benefiting from datalink, the iog drift is still applied and most of the time this drift is enough to make the missile miss the target, gnss missiles have no drift so they get a perfect guidance from datalink
It literally doesn’t matter and never did. There is nothing a plane does that is gonna be less than IOG drift. Hell even if you had entire 120s of guidance go in one drift direction (that doesn’t happen) its 240 meters of error. That is within view of the seeker even at relatively close range.
IOG drift for air to missile never mattered and never will matter. Planes are not flying on cruise control keeping exact speed and direction.
Unless you are shooting from hypothetical plane with pulse radar, on a hovering helicopter - you are not losing any kills in hundreds of games
you’re not quite following what i tried to say there, i agree with you, iog drift doesn’t matter in situations that you described.
what i tried to explain was how iog drift matters for when your missile doesn’t have a lock because the target isn’t in a favorable aspect and you have datalink on this target, in war thunder iog drift is applied to the missile on top of the datalink, usually this drift is enough to make your missile miss. here are some screenshots of a small test i’ve made

i reduced both missile’s seeker range to a very low value to force them to never lock the enemy with their seekers, this is to simulate a situation where the enemy will be flying low to the ground in a side aspect situation where the seeker won’t be able to lock the enemy and gnss will make a difference, which is what i was trying to say
Very nice examples there. You are ofcourse correct, the 120D and PL-12A are particularly good in a situation where the missile has gone from TRK to IOG.
I find them to be particularly sticky in a notch when not changing direction significantly enough, where as C-5 and below will still miss shots where the target is notching but not changing direction.
Those are actually bad examples because this NEVER happens in actual games.
Just look at replays of your game. There is never gonna be situation even if someone wanted where your missile will never lock but your radar will keep it entire game. This is made up situation
If missiles goes from TRK to IOG, literally anything a plane does when left alone will be bigger effect than 1m/s. Planes are not flying cruise control in the game
Happens all the time, in fact from my recent experience, the missiles that have got me the most have been 120D and PL-12A.
And even if it is edge cases, that’s still an increase in pK.
This is just a bias because those missiles are on platforms with competent radars.
Again, i implore you to try to keep to 1m/s of drift even while flying straight. Its a full time job
Meaningless what launches it once we’ve gone from DL+IOG to TRK to IOG again. Also I don’t know if this is your experience as well but maintaining DL is super inconsistent. Especially in NT where aircraft are spamming A2G stores.
Multiple times in a single match my radar will have its DL broken leading to the missile only having TRK and IOG to work from, in these situations which happen frequently every single game the 120D and PL-12A have clear advantages.
And as i’ve said multiple times. This is just not a realistic scenario because planes don’t have cruise control. The plane flying itself has 10 or 100 times the impact of IOG
The only situation where you’d have any impact from 0m/s is launching from tornado in pulse onto hovering helicopter. And idk about you but i haven’t had any harriers at 14.3 sitting still while my radar doesn’t have pulse-only mode
To add: You are gonna get more kills from AFK people on longer battery than 0m/s. Thats just a fact
