Personally I think both are just ‘overkill’ specially for a game like War Thunder that doesn’t require much of the system, specially a mid to high-end system.
But if you’re willing to upgrade and I can’t say no, I believe that NVidia has better support for War Thunder than AMD, there are few features in-game that can sort of confirm this statement,
It will also depend on your operational system, if it’s Windows, I think RTX 5070Ti is the best choise.
9070 XT would be cheaper but is slower iirc? Plus you won’t get most of Nvidia’s features. Which is why i’ve never made the switch as i’ve had issues in the past with AMD’s software in games. (they have gotten better over the years)
I think for ‘future proofing’ Nvidia is the best bet currently still, I don’t have the cards you mention. But i play at 1440p on a 4060ti. Get upwards of 250-300 fps on mostly maxed textures. (not using raytracing)
Don’t just buy the gpu’s for war thunder, Buy them based on other tasks you will also do if you do any work at the computer & keep shopping around on reviews to make the decision. Some sites are a little missleading.
if its pure WT then 5070Ti is the choice
however 9070xt average out 5070 Ti by a slight margin so if u do play other games then id chose 5070 Ti
part of it being Nvidia predatory control on vram
the 5070 ti and the RX9070xt are nearly the same. But remember, war thunder is a primarily Nvidia optimized game. I have heard multiple times before that people complained that they had a worse experience jumping from Nvidia to Amd. But then again these are very new cards and are able to run the game just fine on max graphic settings.
Just make sure to check for missing ROPs if you decide to buy a 5070. Nvidias production quality is quite bad.
5070 TI is just the better gaming card. 9070 XT is solid, I don’t own one but have used a system with one but overall NVIDIA just has a slight edge with gaming. Drivers work better, encounter less issues with driver updates and some other small things. DLSS is also just better than FSR if you want to upscale your games.
Me personally I am fine with it. I wouldn’t be doing it for the frames I would be doing it for better overall RT performance, better up scaling and what I feel are better drivers. Now not everyone would, just because one person has the extra money too does not mean everyone should do it, it just depends on your budget. If money is a factor then 9070XT is probably the way to go unless you get a good deal on 5070TI. However OP clearly stated he only found a $50 difference and that money was not the factor.
Mate I can assure you the smoothness from spending an extra couple hundred dollars on a more beefy GPU is going to be next to unnoticeable, you will only see a benefit if you use Ray Tracing which is complete unoptimised trash and offers little visual improvement for such performance loss. The higher refresh rate of the monitor will do more for perceived smoothness of frames than the GPU
Actually, it’s not just about smoothness. A more powerful GPU improves the overall gaming experience. It’s not only about frame rates, but also lower latency and faster frame rendering, which directly impacts responsiveness in warthunder. Shooting, reacting, and aiming feel tighter and more immediate. Plus, if you’re playing modern titles with heavier graphics loads (even without Ray Tracing), the performance gains can still be noticeable and worth the extra investment.
