HISTORY
A German Arado Ar 196 seaplane made an emergency landing on 8 April 1940 near Kristiansund, and the crew was detained. It was a catapult plane from the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and had run out of fuel. The aircraft was taken over by crews from the provocative air station Aunøy in Trøndelag and incorporated into the department there. The German marks were first painted over in Kristiansund, but the crosses on the underside of the wings were only painted over when the aircraft arrived in Molde. It was based on Eidsøyra and operated there together with an M.F.11 and two English Walrus flying boats. On 18 April the aircraft was flown over to Peterhead in Scotland, where British naval aviators took over the advanced German aircraft. However, it crashed shortly after while landing on clear water and was completely destroyed
