I think this sums up some of my thoughts perfectly.
While the ANB changes were really bad, it still fixed one prevelent issue in coastal, that being some nations had really bad reserves (or in France’s case, it’s entire tier one). With the addition of 4 boats and reshuffling the weaker boats into the optimal segment, it makes coastal a lot easier to start for Japan, UK and France.
That issue being fixed made naval more approachable. While there are still huge issues, even smaller fixes can help a great deal.

I’ve got list of proposed changes to naval which could live it up drastically, some of them minor patch level of complexity or even 2-3 updates in database worth, which even junior dev could handle.
Saw the part asking for optional towing to return and realised that’s another easily fixable change, since it’s a naval focused update, I’m hoping it returns soon (rip sf40 heavy).
Keeping something operational costs money, as server space don’t just grow on trees. It also requires you to spend the time on balancing the modes, which can be perfectly seen when looking at the amount of trouble they had to go through to battle zombers in Air Sim.
It’s not like it’s a no brainer move to keep them alive.
Naval also requires you to spend time and money on developing mode-specific things like maps, mechanics, vehicles, etc.
All of those resources could be reallocated to other modes that actually keep the game alive.
It’s perfectly normal for a business to slash down on the underperforming products, just to open up some space for something more profitable.
Well if gajin not only keeps the servers on, but adds balance changes and content then either naval and sim is making a sufficient profit or they believe that the investments would provide enough growth for a profit in the future.
Naval is cool but please at least make Coastal Fleet in a separated match, is very frustrating playing some Coastal Fleet boat and suddenly a Destroyer pops up out of nowhere.
In my opinion SKR-7 nowadays is more like an niche vehicle, surely the four 76 mm cannons pack-a-punch but with the nerf to the rate of fire is a easy vessel to destroy if it’s a unexperienced player using it.
But regardless, Coastal needs a better suit to be playable in mixed matches, specially in maps where there are little to no cover from the spawn.
For me it’s the rockets that can disable part of your ship behind an island, forcing you to either take a ridiculous amount of punishment or flee and be fully exposed.
But I agree either coastal needs to be separated or something has to change.
Tbh I’d rather take the opinion of the players within the mode, figures showing that with +/- 1 that there is a decent sized player base and the fact that gajin keeps renewing support (even If it’s on the small side) rather than a ground player who never/barely played naval
