That’s the thing, it is both a pro and a con, the ability to maintain the speed while travelling at high speeds would suggest that u get to positions way faster than most of ur teammates or even enemies, but it also means that you’re naturally going to try to maintain ur position and not move out of it too much. It definitely requires rethinking how to play as a tank.
If it gets implemented more globally/widespread the issue should be a lot less problematic since more tanks and players will have to play it differently as well. My only issue is the braking system since we have to tap the brakes to slow down or use CC1 as a temporary solution.
Tried it mainly with the Type 10 and I liked it a lot. In current live version I found that hitting A/D for too long while at top speed could easily spin out the Type 10. Now it is much easier to drive at top speeds.
I think it will be slightly more difficult at lower speeds where the player is trying to make multiple turns, like on city maps, but I didn’t find it all that difficult to press S to drop some speed and downshift before turning.
If it comes to live as is I would be happy, with some minor tweaks I think it can be even better.
It’s not just that, cruise control now actually has a purpose other than putting it to CC Max. CC1 enables tanks to turn sharp and maintain low gears and speed, CC2 allows tanks to still turn without losing much speed while keeping a decent turning radius, CC Max has the top speed at the cost of turning. Cruise control actually has a purpose now instead of simply AFK driving.
Regen steering overall seems great, i think it could do with a little work, but overall its a lovely change
It would be good if it was easier to manually brake the inside track. In a certain other tank game, you can apply a generic “handbrake” which will brake your inside track instantly depending on the direction you are already turning. That system works excellently and only requires one button, allowing both slow controlled turning and rapid drifting when required.
