RDAF Spitfire HF Mk IXe - A mixed bunch

+1, but for sweden as a premium, there are enough spitfires in the british techtree already (premium included). And if it were to go to the brits, then squadron vehicle.

more spitfires means the game is more gooder.

we should have a lot more marks and wing configs in game, we are missing so so many even from the British tree let alone other operators.

Tbh, the Spitfire could be the first plane that could be in all tech trees, similar to the Sherman tank.

There is currently only 4 tech trees that does not have a spitfire, those are Germany, Japan, China and Sweden.

Germany could get either a captured spitfire or the Messerspit (a Spitfire Mk Vb modified with a Bf109 engine)

Japan could get the Thai Spitfire FR mk XIV.

Sweden could either get this Danish Spitfire HF mk IXe or a Norwegian Spitfire.

China could get a Hong Kong Spitfire Mk XVIII or Mk 24.

Hong Kong, is the only nation of the ones i listed that is currently not in the game, and therefore not tied to any nations. The Hong Kong Spitfires could therefore in theory go to UK as premiums instead, since they were operated while Hong Kong was still under British rule.

I hope not

the marketplace skin for the mk24 is of a spitfire that was 80 sqdn hong kong. so HK is already in the game technically. as well as there being a ARB map which is just hong kong island.

would like to see captured vehicles appear more than just a couple in the soviet tree and a load in the german tree tho

Whilst No. 80 Squadron did operate in Hong Kong, it was actually No. 88 Squadron that was named “Hong Kong”.

its still a reference to HK so its something at least.

To be honest. I love seeing my home country get mentioned but if its going to be added id rather it be added to one tree where Danish vehicles already sit. Splitting Denmark between nations would be yet another butchered nation like AU, CAN, ect ect. So either for a future Danish subtree or it shouldn’t be added in any form imo.

+1 for Sweden
What br would it get btw? 4.3? 4.7?

(BR suggestions will be in regards to Realistic Battle)
The standard Spitfire F Mk IX is at 4.3, while the Spitfire LF Mk IX is at 5.7.

From data i have found, these are the top T.A.S. for each of the 3 planes (F, LF & HF)

At 8000ft (~2400m)
F Mk IX: 347 mph (~558 km/h)
LF Mk IX: 373 mph (~600 km/h)
HF Mk IX: 364 mph (~586 km/h)

At 16000ft (~4900m)
F Mk IX: 381 mph (~613 km/h)
LF Mk IX: 390 mph (~627 km/h)
HF Mk IX: 395 mph (~636 km/h)

From that data, i would say a realistic BR for it, would probably be something like 5.3. While the HF have better top speed, and engine performance at higher altitude, it is very high up, in context of ARB, where a lot of the fighting will take place at lower altitudes, where the LF IX have the advantage. At the same time, the HF also have overall better engine performance than the standard Mk IX.

Source of performance

BF274 = F Mk IX
EN524 = HF Mk IX
MA648 = LF Ml IX

Interesting… Also since the HF is better at high altitudes it will perform better in mountain maps right?

Which Spitfires had both canopys ? Mk VIII, IX and XIV or more ?

All HF spitfires needed, matter of fact just all spitfires needed. I feel we need more wartime spitfires, we got a lot of griffins

In theory, yes. But in practice, probably not really, since most of the time, people don’t fly that high up in game.

While on some maps, where you spawn at higher altitude, most people really only fly up 3-4km from the airfields start altitude. While you do begin to gain an advantage over the LF Mk XI in the HF Mk IX, it is not that massive, where you really need to get very high up for it to be more noticeable.

So for the majority of games, the LF Mk IX will be better than the HF Mk IX.

Yeah - and this is nonsense as the popularity of Spitfires is mainly based based on propaganda. Being a pretty aircraft and scoring the most victories of Western fighters is still reason enough to create a demand - even if other fighters were way more efficient or effective.

Example?

Fighter victories - the final tally

  • Supermarine Spitfire 6,338
  • North American P51 Mustang 5,784
  • Grumman F6F Hellcat 5,223
  • Hawker Hurricane 4,850
  • Republic P47 Thunderbolt 3,786

What those statistics usually not cover are losses. You can google Spitfire losses and add them up - just in the ETO (so no MTO or Pacific) you will see the that Fighter Command losses were 3,484 Spitfires and 1,379 Hurricanes. In other words: The Hurricane was the way more efficient fighter.

To save the reputation of Spitfires: They fought the Germans in their prime phase and had therefore a way harder job…

That makes actually sense as the Germans have the most successful fighter of all times, JP has the A6M which whipes the floor with Spitfires, China had basically no modern equipment in WW 2 and Sweden has not participated in a war in the last 200 years…

Don’t get me wrong:

  1. Your suggestion is extremely well prepared
  2. I have no anti-Denmark or anti-Spitfire bias
  3. I understand that there is a demand for easy to use rat planes

I am just tired to fly in matches where Chinese and JP Ki-44s fight each other - or i see guys in the dutch SB-25 going head-on with US, CHN or USSR B-25 - whilst French Yak-3s fight USSR Yak-3s. And we have lots of P-51 Cs and various Bf 109 variants in 6 nations - this kills immersion.

Have a good one!

All 3 marks (also including XVI) had the old canopy and the newer teardrop canopy.

We also had this but i don’t belive it was armed as it was our first reconnaissance aircraft

Sweden lacks a 5.x aircraft, and I won’t find myself complaining about danish planes/tanks. Add as TT vehicle. +1

+1, would be very fine addition to fill the gaps in Swedish air TT.

However, did Danes have bomb racks on these Spitfires? British one has a fuselage hardpoint for 250-500 lbs bombs, and I wouldn’t mind a single bomb for some CAS for ground battles.

The P.R. Mk XI, was an unarmed variant of the Spitfire, just for photo recon.

I couldn’t find any concrete evidence (photos) of the Danish Spitfires having been equipped with bombs.
However, in A.P. 1565J, Pilot’s notes for Spitfire IX, XI & XVI. The Spitfire H.F. Mk IX(e) is mentioned, and later in the same manual, it notes flying limitations for the planes with bombs equipped. That would lead me to assume the H.F. Mk IX would also be able to equip bombs.

Were spitfires well known for being kinda easy to tip? Or was it just the XIe die to the newer engine, i found a book that mentions it and a few other spits operated by us. I did a short summary here. I soubt it has any info your missing but i figured id share it for peeps who are curious and wanted a short summary who cant read Danish.
