Note: The vehicle is still under development. While the hull is real, the turret is only a mockup. As such it isn’t feasible to be implemented as is and I don’t think its right to suggest the vehicle as it stands, hence why this post is not a suggestion but rather a collection of information for the vehicle

This platform is planned to be developed further in the future, thus this post is meant to compile and gather details on the vehicle for future consideration of implementation, not as things stand currently.

Hello everyone! Today I would to introduce the Indonesian P8 Light Tank! This is an Indonesian Light Tank armed with a 30mm cannon for Anti-Drone use. This vehicle is created by PT Sentra Surya Ekajaya (SSE) alongside the Indonesian Cavalry Branch as a platform to fight against modern threats of C-UAVs on the battlefield. It’s worth noting that this vehicle is still in early stages, and as such is not really suitable for implementation in the near future. This post is primarily made to highlight the vehicle and give a relevant place for users to discuss the vehicle.

The P8 Light Tank was created in conjunction by PT SSE with the Indonesian Cavalry Branch to develop a light-weight reliable solution to the threat of future drone warfare. The vehicle was first showcased in 2022-23 and was fully realized a year later. In 2025 it was officially revealed during the Indo Defence 2025 Expo in PT SSE’s booth. A few months later the vehicle was then showcased by the Indonesian Cavalry during the Armed Forces Fair in September the same year.

The vehicle is armed with the Dynateq 30mm Super Land Rogue RCWS turret fitted with an additional 70mm guided missiles on the side of its turret. The original turret uses the Denel GI-30 cannon but in the P8 LT the gun is different. It’s currently unknown what model it is but from the physical look of the muzzle brake presumably its the Mk44 Bushmaster II. It has a wide variety of systems mounted, including but not limited to Laser Warning System, Day & Night sight, as well as an Anti-Drone Radar. It has a weight of ~12 tons and has a max speed of ~100 km/h

Planned Variants

~10 different variants are to be expected in the future

  • Scout
  • Scout ATGM
  • C-UAS
  • UGV
  • Ambulance
  • Autonomous
  • MLRS (Air Defence)
  • +others not specified

out of all these we know the MLRS was known to have been tested behind close doors, but they found several issues with it and thus opted to redesign the system

  • The latter models would have the hull be shortended by 100mm to accomodate its future weapon systems and sensors
  • It will have a future variant with a hybrid or fully electric engine

A. Background

Details

It’s unclear exactly when the development first began, but in 2017 PT SSE became interested in developing their own Tracked vehicles. This interest would eventually lead into the company working alongside the Indonesian Cavalry Branch for guidance for opinions and reccomendations. This is because they’re planned to be the future operator of these new vehicles. This idea would be pursued further in 2022, where the company first showcased the concept scale-model vehicle during the Indonesian Defence exo IndoDefence 2022.

First Appearance of the vehicle as a scale-model during IndoDefence 2022

This Original concept would be developed further in 2023, where the company showcased the specifications for the new vehicle through their official company brochure. The company states that the vehicle is a light tank which will be equipped with a hybrid engine and amphibious capabilities. It will be able to reach speeds of up to 105 km/h with an operational range of around 600 km. The vehicle would have a Remote-Controlled 30mm gun and manned by 3 crew in a STANAG level 2 protected hull. It would also have a CCD Day sight with a 2x FOV Thermal sight, Laser Range Finder, as well as a Gunshot Detection system. The vehicle is planned to have a weight of around 7.5 tons, which makes it easily air-transportable via the C-130 Hercules.

2023 concept of the vehicle’s design

Just a year later, a working prototype created in August and was later revealed for the House of representatives member during a visit to the Company’s facility in November. The model showcased was a very early version with no ATGM pod nor a coaxial gun. These missing features were rectified and by 2025 the vehicle had been revealed to the public during the Indonesian Defence Expo IndoDefence 2025 alongside other vehicles like the P2 Tiger with a 20mm RCWS and the P6 ATAV combat vehicle. Later on in the same year the vehicle was also spotted being displayed by the Indonesian Cavalry Branch during the Armed Forces Fair 2025 in Monas, Jakarta.

The vehicle is, as of writing, still under development. For the future the vehicle is planned to be developed into multiple different variants, namely scout, UGV, Ambulance as well as an Anti-Air MLRS system. This Air-Defence system ran into some weight problem for the hull, and as such is being reworked. The vehicle is also planned to be shortened by 100mm to better accomodate the weapon systems and new sensors.
