When the Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche program was canceled in 2004, the US military was left without a stealth helicopter program—or so it seemed as far as the general public was concerned. In reality, the Pentagon did have a stealth helicopter program, one that would only be obliquely acknowledged when a high-profile mishap revealed the program’s identity. That program was the “Stealth Hawk,” a stealth-modified version of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter—and the mishap that revealed the program’s identity took place during Operation Neptune Spear, better known as the raid that killed terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.
The Stealth Hawk began with the ubiquitous Black Hawk helicopter, a utility platform used widely throughout the US military. The Stealth Hawk modifications, which took place in complete secrecy, were made to reduce the helicopter’s detectability—that is, to reduce its radar, acoustic, infrared, and visual signatures. Put simply, the Black Hawk was modified to be harder to see, hear, and pick up on radar or infrared tracking.
I’m fully committed to buying this once you confirm the expansion of it’s actual armament combined with fixing the things that are objectively missing from it. It’s one of my favorite helicopters but I’m not going to spend any money until it’s done proper justice.
I would say wait for a sale too, with the new sam systems helicopters might become very obsolete, like totally unusable type of obsolete, especially ones with no fnf missiles.
I’m so excited, Gaijin…you have no idea! about this addition to the game! But seriously “The Duke”? Come on! The vehicle isn’t British nor is it related to royalty in any way. There’s still time to change the name of the pack. It could be something like “Ghost Rider”, which sounds way better for a stealth helicopter and would probably have much more commercial impact$$$. There’s even a song called “Ghost Riders in the Sky” that basically predicted this moment!
Or at the very least, consider “Thunderbird”, a legendary creature from Native American cultures — it would fit perfectly with the decal. You could save “The Duke” for a future British-themed pack or something like that…
Don’t forget new shiny SPAA’s they gonna add this patch . It will die even quicker. Hellfire is the worst missile to deal with spaa with only 8km of range, 1 minute flight time to target and still being laser guided.
Short answer: no, but we all know it has a strong connection due to the monarchy, which remains to this day. There are other countries, yes…but we’re talking about an American vehicle, and in terms of culture, Thunderbird or War Chief are by far better. Personally, though, I prefer “Ghost Rider”.
RAH-66 was primary reason why I started playing US year or so ago. I thought one day it would be a great opportunity for GJ to introduce AGM-114L and bring trully unique machine to the game.
But it is always false hope that GJ will introduce well researched, implemented and balanced vehicle. Only due to trandemous effort of the community Commanche might have some of its true potential.
So does the IR signature go into the negatives now?
Stinger (still worse than igla lmao) is unable to lock normal helicopters past 1.5km already… Can’t even imagine how horrible this will be to fight with them.
