Yes this is true, but it’s not like they cant say something, they absolutely can say “ hey, marketing team, maybe this isn’t the best route to take in the long run, we could make a tech tree F14D” or even “maybe we should make the F14D and put it’s actual armament on the aircraft so we keep a realistic game”
They are allowed to have a rebuttal and yes I think the F14B was capable of carrying the 54c+ even though I don’t think it had the software to.
54C+ was dedicated for the 14D, it was never equipped on the 14B nor is it capable of using it. Part of this goes back earlier in the thread when there was talk about the 14D being outfitted with software to use the Aim-120, part of that is probably because the seeker on the 54C+ also used components used in the Aim-120 which required the modifications to the FCS.
Additionally the pylons are a bit different as well since the 54C+ is internally cooled while previous models required external cooling from the pylons.
Here’s the thing - if the Dev’s came here, with a good explanation, as to why A: this plane is being made a premium that is just absolute Su-30 food when there are seriously another half dozen options to give us for a ARH premium and put this in the tech tree, and B: why they won’t give us a tech tree version with AMRAAM’s - I’d have no problem.
The problem is - and why I called them out on it in a mile long post, is that they aren’t coming back with anything good. Like basically saying ‘but see, your own thing shows they never made the upgrade to them’ - at which point sorry, I’m gonna put them on full blast when the F-15C GE exists - cause it’s in the same place as the F-14D AMRAAM upgrade of ‘set up but not followed through on’, maybe less so not sure they funded the project, and other vehicles never armed - but armed in this game because it was ‘supposed to’ or ‘considered’ - even though there is material showing the AIM-120 approved and for where on a F-14D, to say nothing of the fact the AIM-120 was literally designed to slot in where Sparrows went on all existing aircraft like F-4’s and F-15’s.
As someone that actually took courses in game design, I have a certain amount of respect for Devs, but you try and pull something like that, as a player - I’m gonna lose that respect real quick.
F-14D can’t receive 54C+ because it still needs cooling , that 14D can’t provide.
14D used ONLY 54C ECCM/Sealed for that reason, because among the upgrades was the cooling not to be provided by the aircraft.
54C+ can be used by both 14A and B though.
“Accepted” in the bug reporting section doesn’t mean anything yet; there are tons of reports that have received this status, but the devs still haven’t made any changes. The simplest example is the F-104G/S I mentioned a dozen or so posts above—that aircraft actually had IRST and EEGS, The reports were marked “accepted” over two years ago, and to this day, the F-104G/S still lacks these obvious features. It’s a shame—“accepted” doesn’t mean the changes will actually be implemented; it’s just a suggestion to them… :(
Getting back to the F-14, in my opinion, the Super Tomcat won’t truly become “SUPER” until it’s equipped with the AIM-54+; in its current form, it’s just an F-14B with a better radar and IRST.
I have an idea for an interesting squadron-based F-14: the F-14A-65-GR with AMRAAMs (BR 13.3). The YAK-141, which was never in service, made it into the game, so maybe there’s room for the American test platform that was the F-14A-65-GR? I think that would be a good solution and a gesture of goodwill toward the players :)
My username didn’t come out of nowhere…;)
I’ve shown goodwill toward the developers many times, just like many other players when looking at team compositions in random battles—now it’s the devs’ turn, The F-14 Super Tomcat has been one of the most eagerly awaited aircraft in War Thunder for quite some time. Releasing only one version hidden behind a paywall, with equipment more similar to the F-14B, is a bit… ill-conceived.
