Turkey, Greece alone would make a great tree. Call it the “Cyprus” tree because putting one over the other would cause issues (Turkey Tree + Greek Subtree = “Turkey Better”, Greek Tree + Turkish Subtree = “Greece Better”). Its really the only way both would fit together without controversy in the current subtree system (being based on a single nation rather than as a region). I don’t know how Turks or Greeks will feel about that though. The Tree system really needs to change soon because its getting harder and harder to implement countries without causing issues.
Cyprus will be mostly C&P. The only unique vehicles I can think of is the T-80U/UK with Gen2 Thermals and the Kerveros AA (modified Leonidas-2 APC w/ Serbian 20mms). The H145M might be modified with Spikes in the future but nothing concrete.
North Cyprus could bring unique variants of some vehicles but those would be Turkish and its implementation would be controversial because of tensions with Israel and Northern Cyprus.
Greece and Cyprus offer interesting and fun vehicles to bolster Israeli lineups, and the stated aim of the addition of this subtree was to “increase vehicle diversity”, this is something that cannot be offered by Turkey (due to their extremely similar air force, and heavy usage of M-60s, which no one wants to grind) or Chile (similar issue with their air force, and not enough choice in the mid-high BRs of ground to he valid).
On top of this, there is nominally nowhere better for Either Greece or Cyprus to go, they aren’t compatible anywhere besides Italy (who already have plenty of sub-nations) and America (just doesn’t need a Subtree).
I can even create a list of gaps filled with the additions of Greek/Cypriot vehicles if it’s not obvious enough already
Israel has massive br gaps. They need some new stuff to fill it
Except Israel are the one with the unique vehicles here, whereas I love the Greek equipment, they have very little domestic scope to add besides the Leonidas AFVs and a few MBTs.
People did not oppose the addition of hungary, who added the strongest MBT in game to Italy in order to bolster their lineup at top tier, and at the time the strongest aircraft (JAS-39EBS) so realistically speaking, there should be no controversy here, Israel is already the smallest tree in the game, and as a result need a big subtree to help it out, alongside the sustained addition of domestic options.
Besides your claim that ‘Everything will be Greek’ is BS, as Israel will have at least as much as the full subtree can offer, if not more with future additions
Israel : Greece
3 Merkava Mk4s : 1 Leopard 2HEL
4 Israeli F-16s (each unique) : 2-3 HAF F-16s
1 Kurnass 2k : 1 Peace icarus 2k
3 F-15s : 2 Mirages, 1 Rafale
AH-64I/AH-60 : 1 Ah-64D
People got angry at the hungarian sub tree when they found out that they’re slightly better then their german counterparts
People still talk about the Hungarian subtree and how it was implemented horribly. Its just that people don’t care unless it affects them. Only Russian players complained about Russian vehicles to Italy and only German players complained about 2A7HU.
^And it would attract lots of people’s attention since Greece and Cyprus is essentially a mashup of NATO and Soviet equipment. I’m not shocked people don’t want it.
The thread about a Russian Centuaro shows a lot of the arguments iirc.
Well that simply hasn’t reached the level of bad faith discourse that this has.
90% of the complaining comes from people who have a real world dislike of Israel, and as we all know, War Thunder isn’t the place for IRL politics
I’m looking foward to (Hopefully) playing a leopard :)
Well I’m looking forward to all of the Greek/Cypriot vehicles, and I’ll grind and spade all of them, however that hinges on the decision made by gaijin to listen to coherent fact, or community whinging
Who else would it go to. Nobody else logically needs these vehicles
It does get heated in a couple threads every now and then. The only reason why this is being discussed so much is because its so recent. Its only natural it becomes a hot topic when its so new. I mean, immediately after announcement you had people claiming Cyprus to go to the UK.
As the devs said, War Thunder will always have some element of politics.
Will this make the Israeli tree better? Yes and No. Israel has a lot of domestic vehicles missing and considering the last subtree we got was 50% C&P and Ahistorical, its only natural people would be against it for gameplay purposes aswell.
I just hope Cypriot vehicles are made well.
Exactly, I’m waiting for a decent response on that regard, people just want to vehicles away from Israel, even if that means not having them in the game at all
Cyprus to the UK would be incredibly unneeded. They already have a fully built up tree
Same here, the tri-gunned AFV sounds really fun, and having Cypriot camos for different vehicles will be awesome too, especially on the TOR and BUK
The T-80 too hopefully.
Cyprus to Israel feels a bit unneeded to me aswell. Only a couple vehicles really.
It performs more like an AA. It barely has any penetration w/ most of its rounds (like 58mm~ max?) and it uses AHEAD so I assume that’ll be it.
straight from Kerveros suggestion
I’m glad the nation I play is getting something nice
The main reason cyprus is being bundled in is gor it’s SAM systems, it gives Israel something better than the god awful SPYDER AIO, similarly with romainian OSA to italy
Only thing Cyprus would add is the Buk and Aspide. Greece also has the Tor and the Osa. Cyprus would only bring the Aspide, Barak MX and Buk. The Barak is Israeli and the Aspide + Buk would just be filler to 11.0-12.0 where the Barak MX, Tor and fixed* Spyder would go. The IDF also used the Strela system on a BRDM hull. There’s also the Spyder ADS, HVSD/ADAMS (to a lesser), Iron Dome, a fixed Drakon/Chaparral.
