I don’t like the BR changes for the T-34 and M18. You guys are making the USSR 4.0 lineup too crowded and ruin both USSR 3.7 and US 5.7 lineups, again. I am still unhappy about IS-2, M4A3E2 and T20’s BR change, it makes me feel WW2 US and USSR players were discriminated.
On the other hand I think L-62 ANTI II should be move up even more, and SAV.20.12.48 should go to at least 4.0.
Another way is to let the player control a group of 4-8 aircraft that they spawned just like how realistically anti-ship raids shall be done, and switching between them, like how singleplayer battles work. Of course, this is a lot harder to balance, and sure split BR would meant unique BR for naval, hopefully. Ships also have unholy AA firing accuracy.
Or I’d just add waves of Ai aircraft. That way AA fire is spread a bit.
I agree with you but most of the vehicles you listed have a better survivability than the M551 (76)
That is an overstatement that hasn’t been a real problem in modern War Thunder, only with a few exceptions (mostly new vehicles that ended up being raised in BR, wether on air/ground/naval).
There have always been some vehicles that are tuned up in every bracket, and it has always been like that for a reason and it’s how the battle rating system works. Because of the nature of the game it is basically impossible to have a purist type of balance in absolutely every single bracket, so it just becomes wishful thinking and pretending that only because of the vehicle you target as “OP” goes up in br does not entirely mean that some other plane won’t become the king of the bracket it’s just an illusion.
Survivability is more than being able to take a round to the face. Ideally you shouldn’t have to.
The M551(76) is a light tank, and should be used accordingly. Mobility + stabilizer is a very good combination, allowing you to move quickly and fire at the same time. This reinforces the first five layers of the survivability onion.
More armored vehicles tend to also be slower, which means they have less ability to affect those outer layers.
the M551 is a Light Tank, It is much faster than the ones htat are more protected, in which case they have glaring weak spots that are well known. Or are casemate tank casemates which are miserable to play
sur eit is a heavy tank meta at that BR but it does not mean the M551 deserves to be the same BR as the LeKPz M41 when it is superior in all but the HEAT (More Reliable but only 254mm pen)
Mig-15Bis isn’t the best 8.7 fighter, what are you on about?
It’s literally identical to the 8.7 Saber.
the 8.7 Sabre is easier to use than the MiG-15 which has harder guns and handling, but the MiG-15 has more potential to be unlocked than the Sabres
looking at 8.7 in the tech trees there is nothing with clearly better performance at 8.7
…Ehhhh.
I feel like having a gamemode without either the iron grasp of CAS or a near-useless zombers is good. Plus, the arrogant pilots make for pretty spinning wrecks.
Tiger H1 to 5.0
Tiger E to 5.7
M6A1 to 4.0
T1E1 to 4.3
M4A3E2 to 5.0
M4A3E2 (76) W to 5.7
If the KV-2 is 3.7, why not?
Strv M/42 EH and Lago I exist, and are fairly good.
A FW190 has sufficient penetration to top down the M-51. The roof armor of a cast-hull Sherman isn’t very thick. I have personally experienced this.
People rarely bring HE. Even if they do, it doesn’t make the M-51 any less vulnerable to other tank destroyer options. The M-51 is slower than a King Tiger with penetration on par with other tank destroyers of the BR range. Its armor is that of a 3.3 Sherman and the gun handling is atrocious.
They already fight those things constantly with vehicles like the B2 and B1 having HEAT-FS with 380mm of penetration. Generally speaking, against 5.0 vehicles, you’re usually better off using APHE. Your entire argument is “Penetration scary”, but that doesn’t make sense because people don’t spam APCR. Standard HEAT is slow, hard to aim, and does little damage. You need to be extremely precise to get consistent damage out of the vehicle.
M36B2 can keep up with Hellcats at points. They carry a gun off of a 6.7 and have access to high velocity HEAT-FS shells. They’re extremely potent at range and their armor is pretty good for a tank destroyer of their weight class.
Type 87 RCV needs some help too. IG 8.7, or 8.3 at least, would balance it.
9L arn’t that much better, i like r60m’s more because of the guidance off the rail time and better maneuverability is realy handy at times

Yes, this exactly. HEAT, even HEAT-FS in postpen is meh. Having that high pen on HEAT at that BR isnt even unheard of, the Ikv sits at 4.0 with ~400mm pen HEAT-FS.
Now I know you’re not serious
My point stands that you’d be better off with an APHE shell most of the time compared to HEAT-FS at 6.0
The whole argument against the M-51 is “penetration scary”, and it’s so stupid.
I’m glad some people agree.
