It doesn’t help that they merged the CLAWS (1997 ) platform (4x aim120) with the SLAMRAAM (2007-2008) platform (4x aim120 2x aim9x) but decided to give it the first generation AN/MPQ-64 radar (1995) that would already have been 10 years old (2007-2008).
Would be better with the AN/TPQ-53 for better AIM-120 datalink imo
My solution to the problem of high br spaa is to add a Ticonderoga class cruiser to each map. Players should be able to control it, and it should fire SM6 and SM3 missiles. Alternatively, the cruiser could be added to each branch of the game so players can research and use it, and spawning it would cost 70 SP
Wow, 140 km vs 70 km both can already cover map corner from map corner, but somehow one is not okay. Sure thing. Most engagements and air kills happen at 20 km tops in the game, lol. Why would Patriot even be OP anymore?
Some maps in GRB are not even 20 x 20 km, they are extremely small. BUK would have to be denied for that reason, no?
Buk is not good. I can see that you don’t play the Soviet tree. The buk radar scans extremely slow and the buk launches are the only ones that cannot fire missile straight up. The radar lock will also break the moment something like a tree branch happens to get in the way. IRIS is still the best of the new SPAAs added.
A patriot battery would be way better than buk and almost all of the new SPAA additions
Just yesterday on Sweden map. Another Mi-28 went up and killed most of the team including my Iris T. Despite I shot several missiles. They all turned away from the chopper, looked hilarious. Some were so close to hit, but turned into the sky 1 sec before impact. Despite permanent radar contact and supposed datalink?
Germany unplayable. Need already a new SAM. Iris didn’t even survived 2 patch cycles. Total garbage now. Patriot is needed.
(All this while Ru has a Mach 5 SAM with 70km range, stand alone launch vehicles, killing everything).
Lol and patriot radar doesnt even have 360° degree coverage, its just AESA radar that can see 120° degrees, only the newest patriot radar has 360° coverage, which I doubt gaijin will add
Patriot would be fine in the game because range is completely irrelevant in GRB, WT does not even have DCS sized maps, most don’t even exceed 20x20 km in ground (Vietnam is barely 18x18 km), it would be problematic in something like ARB or SIM EC but ground battles? It should get the green light, BUK is allowed with a Mach 5 missile in GRB, so why not also Patriot? At least America should get it, CLAWS is just too weak.
SLM is fine as long they give it LDRICM resistance and increase the IIR lock range back to 10 km, (it should be 20 km but whatever, balance, maps too small for that)
Thats the issue, just another case where two Mi28 with Lmur dismantled the whole team including Iris T. You just can’t do anything vs. the most common air threat. Everyone spamming DIRCM helis. Shoting volley, land, reloading, another volley, land, reload…its just disgusting gameplay. All this while beeing immune to the top tier SPAA of Ger.
Also somehow inable to shot down jets around 20km… I don’t know when Iris gets anemic. Still testing. But it appears it won’t hit actively piloted aircraft above 12km or something.
I have found the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel to not be a great radar in terms of tracking, nor are the guidance systems on the Aim 9x Block 2 or Aim 120 C7. The missiles are extremely easy to notch or counter compared to other SAM system say the IRIS-T or BUK-M3.
Instead of giving the US the NASAMS which isn’t even used in the United States or really produced domestically for the US, the PATRIOT system should’ve been given… or even supplement lower SPAA tiers with things like the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger. Gaijin could’ve found ways to balance out the Patriot if it was deemed too overpowered as well, similar to how they balanced out the IRIS-T by modifying some factors of the missile.
Kinda disappointed that US was yet again not allowed to be supplemented with modern equipment while updates continue to bring modern equipment to other countries.
Yeah it’s because it’s the first gen radar from 1995 serving as a detection system for missiles from 2000’s when there are plenty of newer radar systems that could have been added.
There are updates to the AN/MPQ-64 that would make the AA worth being in top tier. Remove the AIM-9x and it’s such a worse system.
You can confirm that it’s the first generation via the xray on the CLAWS and NASAMS
