  • Description:
    • The Pbv 401, also known as “Pansarbandvagn 401” is the Swedish-designation of the MT-LB armored vehicle that has played a central role in the Swedish Armed Forces since its introduction in 1993 when 460 of them were purchased from Germany. Prior to entering service, the vehicles were refurbished and repainted to match Swedish requirements. It is designed to transport troops, be highly versatile in roles, and provide protection against low-caliber weapons and shrapnel on the battlefield. The vehicle is powered by a 8-cyl JaMZ-238W Diesel Engine, producing approximately 240 horsepower, which allows it to reach a top speed of around 60 km/h on roads. The Pbv 401 measures approximately 6.45m in length, 2.85m in width, and 1.85m in height. In normal configuration, it is equipped with a 7.62mm PKT machine gun capable of providing light suppressing fire for advancing troops. With its robust construction and ability to traverse difficult terrains, including snow and mud, the Pbv 401 has proven to be a versatile vehicle in many different operations. In 2011, Sweden sold the remaining units to Finland for €2.7 million, phasing the vehicle out of Swedish service.
    • In the early 1990’s upon receipt of the Pbv 401’s, the Swedish Military tested multiple different weapon systems on the Pbv 401 chassis to increase there effectiveness. One such system incorporated a swivel mounted anti-tank missile launcher, replacing the 7.62mm PKT machine gun turret. This missile launcher incorporated 3x Rbs 56 BILL 1 anti-tank missiles that are top-attack capable and of which can be fired in rapid succession. 6x additional missiles were stored in the hull. The system was equipped with good optics and night vision equipment however, specifics are not available at this time. The Rbs 56 BILL 1 missile itself is the world’s first top-attack missile that penetrates roughly ~550mm of RHA utilizing a HEAT warhead. The charge is located in the back of the missile, detonating a stream of molten material at a 30-degree angle into the top of the targets turret or hull. Unlike the BILL 2, the BILL 1 only has one warhead and does not have tandem capability to penetrate ERA because of this. The system was highly promising and would receive the designation Pansarvärnrobotbandvagn 452 or “Pvrbbv 452” however, only one protoype was made. Conflicting sources state it was in service with the Swedish Army until 2010 but no other information is provided.
    • There is VERY limited information on this vehicle, as much information as I can gather is provided. If others have access to more images or information, please post below in the comments.

  • In-game:
    • Adding this vehicle would provide Sweden with an indigenous dedicated anti-tank missile carrier armed with the unique Rbs 56 BILL 1 missile which is not in-game. The triple tube turret with this missile would allow the player to fire in quick succession a total of 3x top-attack missiles to quickly destroy a target, even if it has ERA on the top of the turret/hull. Of note, this missile is different since it lacks tandem capability with only 1x charge vice the Rbs 56 BILL 2 which has 2x. This vehicle would feature a unique playstyle, being capable of hiding behind hills and obstacles with the turret being the only part of the vehicle exposed. With the turret being so high off of the vehicle, it may provide protection from being fully destroyed if the turret is hit. While it lacks smoke grenades, it can, in a limited capacity, make up for this with ESS. It’s unknown if the vehicle lost its Amphibious capabilities as no source state it has so at this time its safe to say it retains it.

Sweet! I was wondering if this was going to get approved. I couldn’t find nearly anything on this vehicle.

This had been on my list, but I struggled to get enough info on it. Good job! I’d really like to have this for Sweden, and any excuse for more MT-LBs gets my approval! +1

Keep in mind everyone that this uses BILL 1’s not the BILL 2’s we see in-game. Still top-attack but only one penetrator versus two on the BILL 2.

I’ll never say no to a BILL Carrier especially since this one you can hide more easily than the Pv-302 BILL carrier
