Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

The APG-65 uses “Pulse-Doppler” Illumination, not FM-CW for Sparrows guidance so it is indistinguishable from the “Track” waveform So you shouldn’t technically get a “track” warning (as the RWR should assume the higher threat state so should always declare “Missile Guidance” ).

I assume the GR1 will be getting its naval radar?

Damn, that looks cool

Will they be able to hit something like a BUK?

Why they should? it’s AShM.

And BUK is pretty much the same size and form-factor as a torpedo boat

And the Buk is still on the water, where target selection is much easier. Yep. Sure.

The Tornados ground mapping radar probably would be able to locate it, but would engage it with ALARM IRL not Sea Eagles

How about desert maps?

I’m just fooling around.

Fair enough

Though…

When?

Shouldn’t have called your copter a “black shark” dummy

Just seen that A2N modes have been added to all Tonkas, not just those with ASMs, which is rather nice.

Any sources for the Tonka being able to cue Tpod / Bombing computer to an A2N radar lock?
