Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

Now when did they start doing animations for targeting pods?

Quite a while ago, I remember testing the J-10A when it first came out back in 2024 and it also had a broken targeting pod. People usually don’t realise since the animation only takes place when you use it, the TIALD as you seen also acts very funny thanks to said broken animation.

I’d like to mention that the Tornado GR.1 still sits at 11.7 in ARB whilst being entirely worse than the Tornado IDS WTD61 which itself sits at 11.3. The recently introduced F-5A(G) which is basically just a F-5E but with AIM-9Ls also sits at 11.0 whilst being a far more competitive ARB platform.

We need a serious BR decrease for the Tornado GR.1 and this probably won’t happen if we as a community don’t complain enough - I was thinking moving it down to 11.3/11.0 or giving it AIM-9Ms and keeping it 11.7.

Gotta love the Britain tax :)

It’s probably due to PGM

Ground ordinance isn’t a factor for the BR placement of aircraft in ARB (air realistic battles) anymore and this has been a thing ever since GRB and ARB has been split battle rating wise - the GR.1 has no right being 11.7, it shouldn’t face the F/A-18C whatsoever lmao.

It almost certainly needs to recieve both Mk103 engines and an 11.3 BR.

Whether or not they should all drop below 11.3 is… difficult and im largely on the fence. Especially when perhaps other buffs would be better suited to keep it at 11.3 (such a Sky Shadow) (if combined with the F-18 going to 12.7, then this eliminates much of the uptier problem)

If it is to remain at 11.7, then yes, Buffs certainly need to be considered, whether Aim-9M is too much could be hotley debated but the GR1 could certainly receive BOL which might be more than enough for it to remain at 11.7.

But first things first is to get the Mk103 engines for it as their excuses for it are laughable, especially when no one else has such nerfs

It had the higher BR long before PGMs were added, for some strange reason gaijin has always placed the Tpod equipped Tornados higher than the non-tpod equivalent (back then, it was just the MFG without and it was always slightly lower BR)

Even if they considered PGMs so superior, doesnt explain Italys equivalent the IDS (1995) from also being 11.7, out of the 3 its the weakest in terms of A2G loadout

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

Just to confirm you know, neither the Italian or German “early” IDS, have the MK101 engine, they all have Mk103 engines, (not entirely clear with how you have written this)

but yeah, I largely agree with what you’ve said. The Tornado is heavily discriminated against both on a British level and a Tornado wide level.

Given its problems for the first 18 months of its life in War Thunder. Id almost say they personally hate the Tonka

Maybe I wrote that part badly. :| I also wanted to say just the same as you saying here.
Sorry for my bad writing skills, as always.

If Gaijin decided to give GR.1 because nothing more than ‘they are early variant’
Then why did Early Tonka outside GB TT evade that shameless treat?

And why did F-15E receive an up-engine, unlike Tonka GR.1 did??
:/

Yep, that was my argument and why something largely stinks with their justification. But nope, fell on deaf ears as always

We should’ve exported Tornado IDS into either the US or the USSR. :P

Then at least they might still hate the British, but will not hate tonka anymore. :/

Would be fun at 10.7 :P

Did the Foxhunter A.I. ever feature NCTR or something akin to it?

I recall there maybe being a proposed upgrade for it, maybe (dont quote me on that) but ultimately no.

Unfortunate.

2 questions, firstly, should the Gr.4 have TWS GMTI? Secondly, I’ve always used the ‘sight stabilisation’ key bind to lock onto ground vehicles but this isn’t working with the Gr.4 pod, something changed?

No

Also no, but you might need to clarity if you’re talking about the integrated FLIR or the LITENING III pod?

IRL did it have anything similar to TWS GMTI?

The Litening pod, was playing ASB on Afghan and couldn’t lock the vehicles, even when within 5km
