Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

Might be a bit of a headache to model but its not really any different to para-ret bombs. They just need to figure out how to loft it to LEO before deploying the chute.

There was a brief overlap of about 3 years, though I think it was only ever cleared on the GR.1B?
First GR.4 delivered in 1997, Sea Eagle retired in 2000.

Now, don’t mind me laughing manically in the corner at the thought of lobbing a few Storm Shadows or a dozen Brimstones.

Officially retired, yes, but any actually left in service is another question. I know that when the Sea Harrier FA2 entered service in 1993, there was only 3 left. Id assume by the time of 1997. That number had probably gone down.

Was that 3x rounds left in RN/FAA stocks, or total?
I’m sure I saw Tornados at Lossie carrying them latter than that.

I have no idea.

Couldn’t have been 3. They had to do a ton of work with them in the FA.2 program. Even a few launches and even more carriage and handling trials.

That is a very alarming picture

Its going to be really fun, though not looking forward to it being like 12.7 in GRB for “balance”

I’ve heard enough.

First 14.0 ground BR

with ALARM i’m fine with that

Harrier Gr.3 with shrike

What br do you think that’ll be.

@Gunjob

Im not sure if it was you or another BRM but can you provide some further explanation into this “solution” to fix this issue

AGMs (like the PGM and Brimstone) are being counted as rockets and are automatically switching the cockpit sight mode to “rocket” mode despite the fact that there is no symbology for this. The reports intent was to have this mode removed entirely from the HUD so that when selecting PGM or Brimstone, the sight mode would remain in “standard” instead the solution has been to add the completely worthless rocket sight mode to the list of modes you can cycle through.

Can the rocket sight mode be entirely removed or do you have any documentation that would enable this mode to actually serve an objective purpose to exisitng

No, not that I can see.

No, I don’t have a GR.4 weapons manual nor do I have a “late” GR.1 weapons manual that would contain this kind of symbology.

Also when I do eventually get a GR.4 weapons manual after the last nation retires the Tornado, I suspect the Brimstone elements will be redacted.

Hmm, thank you, its such a wierd decision to have rocket sight mode for AGMs without known symbology to justify it

Likely a game limit when you have specific weapons attached in specific categories.

Yeah, but it must have been relatviely recent change, I dont recall it being a thing until just before I submitted the report. For any aircraft

Not sure, I swear its done this since the dev server where GR4 turned up.

Hmm… I dont recall, but I definetly dont remember it doing it on the GR1 prior at least, nor on the GR7 with the AGM-65s. Actually didnt realise it even did until I gave it a quick test with the GR7 this morning to see if it was an AGM thing now or a wierd Tornado only thing

It prolly has symbology for the PGM and Brimstone.

The harrier 2 has a square box that appears showing the seeker zone of the mavericks and a square or circle marker that appears in the hud on what the seeker head is locked too. As well as ranging in/out range iirc.

The square box moves to relate to what the TV is capable of seeing in its FOV.

I would assume the tornado has something similar.
