Overhaul of Gaijin calculator

I still have a copy of the Google Sheet of your old calculator, in fact. I also took the time a few years ago to fill in the data from the live server at the time for easy comparison (though its probably not accurate these days LOL).

If you ever want to work on it again I can always send it to you in a DM.

I don’t take carrier weight into account. When I tried, there was no way to accurately account for it. Some were way too high and some were way too low. I decided to just use core weight. The downside is that won’t accurately represent the situation either. I don’t think you can accurately represent every scenario with a simple formula. I made a decision to do what I felt gave the most fair results.

US protection estimates for the 100mm BR412B against cast armor puts it about 178mm at muzzle velocity. Protection estimates are based on the hit generating a small hole in the armor plate, so its a pretty generous standard.

I got pretty good results by just adding the steel weight behind the core to the cores weight:

I remember Peasant posting something about that too. I could try to add something to the formula but I would need to know the specific dimensions of each carrier. I don’t have that much data on hand.

Okay, so if you use a formula that works for US and German rounds, what are the numbers that result when Russian rounds are plugged into the formula, looking at just the cores only? Likewise, as Kiwi states, how do the numbers change if you add the carrier mass behind the core? I’m just curious how off the numbers are compared to what we do know about the rounds.

If I remember right, it would over estimate Russian APCR because they have much heavier carriers for the size of their cores.

Well if you have the time to re-calculate, I’m curious what the respective numbers are for their 45-122mm guns’ APCR rounds. If they aren’t outlandish compared with those of similar-size American or German APCRs, then honestly I can give those numbers a pass.

The whole game needs a global APCR rebuff so badly that even semi-ahistorical numbers on Russian (and one Japanese) round are an acceptable tradeoff.

I can try but I don’t remember the exact numbers I landed on. I have one formula I use for testing ideas and one that I have set as my suggestion.

Suggestion passed to the developers for consideration.
