Osa-AK and Osa-AKM: Air Defense Classics

How is this any different with any saclos sam ?

I know, I’m talking about the design choice.

I would argue that 10.3 is fine for the OSA actually and that its stuff like the Roland’s that need to go down in BR more than anything in their current state.

Germany definitely deserves having this and I hope they add some more GDR vehicles eventually.

However I am very much opposed to the idea of Britain getting an OSA.

Adding the Osa to 4 nations is actually useful, especially for the UK and Italy. Now I don’t have to rely on the outdated Otomatic or the Stormer HMV/AD and ADATS. Yes, its not unique or no domestic designs and lazy work on the devs, but it’s a highly needed SAM to face the CAS that keep getting new ordinances to target tanks. I for one am grateful for such addition.

Well for normal SACLOS, the launcher tracks the missiles by the IR flare on their tail. So only 1 missile can be tracked and guided at the same time.

But the Osa tracks the missile with a small extra radar set, and duplicates the radar set for 2 missiles.

Not that it makes a huge practical difference ingame, but it is a thing.

I think most Italian mains would rather wait another year and not get the OSA than getting the OSA and waiting another six years before a domestic top tier is added…

Hello all, just a reminder, while I get you all feel strongly about this, please maintain respect towards your fellow forum users.

Thank you!

Bit generalising of a large group of players.

or any top tier added (we’ve been waiting what 2 years for Pantsir level SPAA added to 9 nations)

Britain, did not need another 10.3 SPAA. HVM with a few buffs/tweaks is pretty good

USSR, did not need another 10.3 SPAA. 2S6 and Strela are already really good.

Germany and Italy, its a good buff. Fine for Germany but yeah, Italy it kinda sucks for (not being an Italian system) and I dont think it will be usable past 11.0 ish really. Not a good replacement for top tier SPAA for any nation.

Except for the 10.3 CAS and helis that just sit outside Strela range. The Osa has been needed for years.

there is a difference between being absolutely desperate, like Israel and Italy are for something at top tier and it being a handy tool to have at a BR where you already have 2 of the strongest SPAA at that BR.

Not a lot you can do to defend against a strela in a lot of CAS aircraft around that BR already bar a few. Especially in an uptier

Pretty easy, Jaguar A/E/GR.1A, Q-5L, A-10A, A-4N, A-4E’s, Super Etendard. Which just so coincidentally happen to be some of the most common CAS planes at that BR range.

Still italy doesnt really have much options around the br that the osa is at, just the lince with rbs 70, thats basically all, which anti air wise is basically a worse asrad

and I doubt the OSA will change anything, its a huge lumbering bus that can be seen easily accross map and will ping RWRs. I know Jaguar GR1A with Phimat pod will defeat the OSA with ease.

But I know the Strela would kill me instantly if I got within range. I’ve tried bomb runs when I’ve been running a Sea Harrier with CAP, most I can at least dump my bombs and get to safety against, Strela… Nope, no chance.

But there are 2 concerns

  1. They’ll now deny native vehicles like those Speclist already mentioned

or something like the Tracked Rapier for Britain because “you have the OSA already and so dont need anything else”

or

  1. that they are working on adding 10.3 SPAA which are nice, but a bit niche alongside existing vehicles like the OSA or Stormer AD instead of addressing the major issue at top tier where basically the only top tier worthy SPAA in the Pantsir, everyone else struggle to do much than be an annoyance.

(I can already deal with most aircraft that spawn in at 10.7 in the Stormer HVM, rarely do I get someone that I cant kill usually its just a A-6E)

I can only imagine that the Decemeber update is going to be SPAA focused, it has to with these ultra high performance CAS aircraft being added like the Su-34 with no reasonable counters in sight. But we’ll have to wait and see.

we’ll also have to wait and see if the OSA is actually any good. I have my reservations.

At the very least it will help somewhat against the Ah-6M and OH-58D’s loitering up to 8km away. Unless they play to the terrain.

It might, I think the sheer size of it, means being sneaky in it is going to be far harder. Anyone smart is just going to target it first.

But something like a Strela, HVM, etc, can hide far more easily and pop out and engage without you spotting them.

Also being dependent on a radar from what I saw, means its going to alert anything with an RWR that it needs to defend. The question is going to be how the missiles perform kinematically. Big advantage of teh Stormer and why I get so many kills is the IRST. Just need the tracers removed from the missiles and you would have no warning you’ve been fired at

I mean with thermal TGPs, any SPAA stands out like a sore thumb.

i mean with the 12m proxy fuze you can get some shots when they use the terrain as cover

True, but TGPs cant see through a building. The OSA is going to struggle to hide behind a few on some maps that I can in the Stormer
