I am confused? Why would the USSR (since the T-80’s are theirs) let Americans buy these? Like I am totally confused. But IG it’s nice to meet something other than the Abrams and Click-baits, so yeah, for varieties sake it’s probably good.
It’s not USSR, it’s post-USSR Ukraine. Ukraine developed this variant. This deal happened in the early 2000’s. Ukraine built the T-80UD at Kharkiv while it was the Ukraine SSR and when it became independent, continued to develop its own tanks with further evolutions of the T-80UD, ERA, munitions, and eventually the T-84/BM Oplot. This vehicle is a Ukrainian Oplot that has been semi-stripped of sensitive technologies and sold to the U.S. for export. This variant is only used by the U.S. for testing and analysis.
OHH, so Ukraine escaped Russia and leaked Russian docs to the US for help?
No, Ukraine was a major manufacturer of technology while it was part of the Soviet Union. Ukraine produced a LOT of weapons for the USSR which includes T-64’s, T-80UD’s, R-77’s (for a while, the sole producer of it in the USSR), and more. Ukraine and Russia both have there large defense industries originate from the Soviet Union. They’re not the same, they both have independent developments and Ukraine sold what it deemed as its own technology to sell. Ukraine sold it the US as a way likely to branch out Westward. This was prior to any major conflicts.
OKOK thank you!!!
No worries, feel free to check out my Ukraine Ground Forces Tree if you want to see what kind of technological developments Ukraine has made:
Ye, I used to chat there.
TAPNA can be used withoud modifications to the autoloader
In Ukraine, V.A. Malyshev Kharkov Transport Machine Building Plant
It was not designed to mock anything
Technically can use M-60 tracks
Can use after a little modification to the MG mount (it was done on T-72AMT zr.2022)
While it is just plain “whataboutism” about the key components of the tank, which require a giant reconstruction, i am tempted to respond.
US doesn’t have a suitable engine, doesn’t have serially produced autoloader which could be installed there, gun could be installed into T-84-120 turret, but it was not ordered, therefore your question is invalid
Nuh-uh. It is much closer in appearance to the Pakistani T-80UD (not the one represented in game, but the modified)
Show me one SOVIET T-80UD with Drozd and welded turret
Technically false since all 3 produced tanks are at Aberdeen training facility in Maryland state, USA
Oh, they’re still floating about? Hmm hope the Armor and Cav Collection can get one for display
Yup, they’re still there, used for testing as needed.
All of these(+one with AC unit) should be there, alongside BM Oplot and T-72AG(or MP, i am not sure)
Im sorry, that is correct. It simply was brought down as close as possible to the T-80UD standard.
Still a Soviet tank, no? Still close to a model we have in game?
It isn’t whataboutism. I’m providing an argument. The whole thing is pieces of Soviet and Russian design. Therefore, it is a Soviet vehicle. Therefore, it belongs in the tree with the rest of the Soviet vehicles, the USSR.
Fair. However, the hull is still a T-80UD hull. Not an individually built hull. And still very much uses Soviet Doctrine for design.
Was it done on a T-84?
Fair
Modified to be like* a T-80UD.
Were they produced in the United States? No. Therefore, they are not American.
There is no need for this, and more importantly, no need for this near-blatant copy-paste in game.Part of what makes this game what it is is the level of uniqueness in Top Tier GRB. The United States has so many other and better things it can get before the Obj478BEM1. Also, it opens the door to things I, and plenty of others, do not want to see; like Russian Abrams and Bradleys, American Su-27s and MiG-29s, or French Leopards (which we already have and people already hate).
This is something I’m going to need to fix on the suggestion, the U.S. government recognizes it as a T-80UD (probably due to the fact around the time it was manufactured, the T-84 designation was used sparingly) but in fact, it was pretty much left with all the features of an Oplot. It has the Ukrainian-made ERA, powerful engine with significant reverse speeds, French Catherine Thermal Sight, Drozd APS, etc. While it exhibits the look of a T-series tank, it’s quite drastic.
I do see what you mean by this, you’re just want to keep authenticity but that’s different from just”blatant copy and paste”. This is hardly copy and paste, at that rate the M1A2 SEP and SEPv2 are just copy and paste but with a CROWS. That’s a different argument.
Edited: I understand and respect the concerns of having this in the US tree as in opening the door for US equipment in the Russia tree or other way around, that’s more up to Gaijin because they just kind of do what they want anyways.
A. Near Blatant. not blatant. There are some changes; but not enough to make it a valid addition to the US tree.
B. I know a lot of people don’t think it should go to Russia either; but unfortunately the place it fits best is, ultimately, the Russian tech tree. It has the base from a Soviet Design- it utilizes Soviet equipment. There are absolutely some things that are uniquely Ukrainian, that I cannot deny- but even then, most Ukrainian or Soviet-Ukraine stuff ends up or will end up in the Russian TT. I can very much see this never being added simply because of the arguments it will bring all around.
Infact it is the USSR tree and seeing as other former USSR is in it (Russia, Belarus) it makes sense
To is your own, we all have our opinions.
Based on the Leak Lists prior, it could make its way into an Ukraine/Poland/Czech/Slovak, etc. tree. There was an Eastern European tree (regardless of the popularity of it or not) leak that had these nations together. It was never shot down by any leaker.
Yeah that’s fine. It makes much more sense for it to be there than in the US Tech Tree.
When I made this suggestion it was originally under Ukraine/other nations but was moved by mods. We’ll see what happens or if it ever gets added to begin with.
That I did not know. That makes sense I guess.
