im struggling to get the mig23 mld’s radar to even lock anything while at tree top level

I hope game ending nukes/killstreaks DO NOT remain once the mode is implemented into the main game.
The fastest way to get these right now is to just ignore everything new and go for air to air kills in the middle. As long as there is a way to win the game by ignoring the new pve mechanics we are not solving one of the biggest ARB problems.
If this remains this new mode will very quickly devolve into what ARB is right now.
I do not want another TDM mode.
For context: I lost a game where my team held a 4-1 AF advantage and where we destroyed most enemy depots and AA launchers. We still lost because some guy went 17-19 in the middle of the map while ingoring every single objective. No camping the strategic bomber spawns is not fun.
I hope this is just a gimmick for the April’s fools event
Dunno, this skill issue doesn’t seem to exist on russian side. We win most matches. Once you’re in the Su-24, you can take out their airfields mostly uncontested. While vice versy, its just bleh. A6, Phantom…the preset planes are just inferior. Mig-23 > Phantom by a large margin.

People are completely missing the point of this event.
These April Fools events are used by Gaijin to see how the community reacts to certain features. In the 2017 Rank IX event, the community reacted positively to modern vehicles so Gaijin proceeded with it. In the 2019 Earth Thunder event, the community wasn’t so interested so combined air, land, and sea matches weren’t tested further. The 2021 Warfare 2077 event showed that the community was interested in Spike style ATGM’s but they needed serious nerfs, which Gaijin carried out.
The community has REPEATEDLY asked for new modes in regular games to make them more interesting. The Air RB meta is short range dogfighting and base bombing. Fuel isn’t much of a concern so certain aircraft like American fighters with their large fuel capacities and superior high alt performance don’t get to shine. Most ground attack aircraft except certain premium examples are also forgotten because it’s impossible for them to reach the ground targets before enemy fighters get them. Some maps don’t even have ground targets at all.
Gaijin meanwhile has REPEATEDLY insisted that they only follow what the community wants and that the community has no interest in other game modes or playstyles.
What did BVVD say in his QnA at the start of the year?
At 5:33 the question is asked; “Air RB Enduring Confrontation tests were beloved by the community. Can we expect to see Air RB EC in the future?”
BVVD’s answer: "We’re not planning to replace the current Air RB with an RB version of Enduring Confrontation or somehow mix EC into the regular random battles. We’ve already tried adding EC-style missions to Air RB as a separate event, but they didn’t gain much popularity among players. So it’s not really our decision - It’s just the reality shaped by player experience and preferences. That said, we completely understand that some players are interested in trying something fresh, something new. And we are already working on that something, a new mode in fact. It’s called “Aerial Warfare.”
What does this event really bring? We’ve got a very large map with a working logistic system. More importantly, there’s the air defence network. It’s incredibly complex. Each side has a long range system with either the S-300 or the Patriot. There’s the medium range HAWK and BUK systems. And then short range systems like the Osa-AKM, FlaRakPz 1, Strela-10M, Gepard and ZSU-23-4M4.
Seems like we have a proper SEAD game mode. We’ve even got anti-radiation missiles that should help us… right?
Nope. The air defence systems have some extreme and quite laughable artificial buffs and it’s quite a long list. Firstly, they fire on the move at 60 km/hr without needing to stop. Gaijin in a recent post claimed this was because they can’t program it to stop moving. Yet if you watch the Smerch and M270 MLRS, you’ll notice they stop to aim and fire their rocket salvos.
Next, BUKs and the S-300 do not trigger your RWR at all. You’ve got to stay below 60 m at all times if you want to make sure they’re not targetting you. This becomes a problem with the next artificial buff.
Air defence systems can see you through terrain. Terrain masking isn’t going to help you because the Gepard can see you through terrain and is going to try and shoot you through it. This means the BUK can sling missiles at you from several dozen KM away even with several hills blocking the line of sight.
But what’s the single most troublesome buff the air defence (and IFV’s) have? They do scripted damage exactly the same way airfield AAA do in lower tier RB games. I thought I was going insane first. Why did I never see or hear the missile hitting me? How did a Gepard kill me though a hill? How did a Bradley kill me when it was clearly missing me?
Then I checked the sensor mode in the replay where I watched my plane explode for no reason at all supposedly to a FlaRakPz 1.
Gaijin has gave air defence these insane cheats (I can’t even call it a buff, it’s just straight up cheating) and you’re expected to be able to defeat them? No, not at all. You’re not supposed to destroy them, Gaijin doesn’t want you destroying them. You’re hardly even rewarded for it. You get just 60 points for each ground target you destroy. You’ve got to put in such an insane amont of effort to destroy even one ground target and might still fail simply because the AI is cheating. If you take out that pesky BUK system on the eastern coast, you’re only going to be rewarded 180 points.
And those anti-radiation missiles or any guided weapon aren’t helping you. Air defence will intercept them with a 100% success rate. They’ll even intercept air to air missiles.
What is the point of this mode then? Remember before how I was saying the Air RB meta is short range dogfighting and base bombing? It’s exactly that. Take your fighter, kill other fighters to collect spawn points. Use spawn points to bring in nuclear weapons to bomb the bases and win the game. That is what this event is about.
When this event ends, I can guarantee BVVD or someone else from Gaijin will make a post that goes along with something like.
“We looked at how the community reacted to the event, and the majority of players weren’t interested in taking on SEAD or ground attack roles. They instead preferred air to air combat and usng nuclear weapons to bomb the bases. From this, we can conclude that the community prefers what the current Air RB modes provide and we have no plans to change them. Also we’re not going to add anti-radiation missiles to the game also due to the lack of interest they received during the event.”
Remember what BVVD said in that QnA. He’s already made this stance clear.

They’re rigging events and certain mechanics so you don’t enjoy them and then gaslighting you by claiming its your fault because of how they implemented it.
3 hours in and im only at 2.7k score for russia…i would much rather have the usual 40k score in a normal game mode
For those that don’t believe me about the scripted damage. You can use the sensor mode in the replay to see what hits you, it will shot every single munition. However because the game technically only lasts 15 minutes, you can only see the first 15 minutes of each game.
Given a) there’s no obligation for you to play the F-16A, and b) I have seen many a player play a game without getting a single teamkill, I rather think you’re making a problem out of nothing.
Unless, of course, the issue is primarily yours in which case I’ll leave that to you.
Looks legit if it doesn’t carry full fuel or bombloads. The aircraft is designed to fly horizontally without the nose pointing up to maintain level with a full bombload and fuel load, so these wings generate an absurd amount of lift.
Without that weight the wings don’t need a large angle of attack for the aircraft to maintain its altitude or even climb, which means that it can climb, even if the fuselage is pointing downwards.
The same applies to the Tu-95 btw.
Russian side plays objectives.
US especially in the lower bracket just farms them.
Personally i dgaf if i win or lose if i can 1game the star by killing MLDs in F-4J.
On the other side, when i played Russians i was more focused on objectives … because if there is one or 2 players in 4J/S that know their stuff will just farm the entire team .
F-4J/S can easily go over 2:1KDR , very easily in the event.
I barely see people in the MLD 1:1 , and talking by experience i did some pentakills with it by nuking airfierlds .
However, the truth is Russian side is WAY too much handholding , SAMs alone.
When i play Russians i can easily pass SAMs, when i play US i’ve see S300 killing my AIM-54 even.
OSA plays like it is a modern AESA radar-ed with ECCM and IRCCM AIM-9X block 52 level and guided by the hand of every god existed and not, together.
In US side, HAWKs sometimes do crazy things, not to that level though.
Fix the trees, the map is straight garbage. Dying to nothing combined with 9/10 games already started- many times we only have the back air field spawn got old 3 days ago.

Thanks to the Flakrad’s and OSA’s that can fire on the move at 40km/h and with undeployed radar, shooting you down with no LOS and in the face of dozens of countermeasures, this event has rapidly gone from something enjoyable, to a complete anti-fun slog.
Yeah, I’ve not had a single TK yet and all of my kills are from guns or 9Ls
OSA developed a new level of SAM in this event
In the end ARB is nice cashcow, Gaijin monetizes frustation and turns it into people opening up their wallets and buying a premium or premium account.
Even the dumbest of people come out with a positive SL earning, Gaijin probably saw this and is now rigging it to make it as frustrating as possible and make people come back to ARB, they’ll probably water down nuclear thunder into a slightly different ARB, or make it unplayable.
