Northrop F-5E Tiger III Plus - One of the most powerful Northrop F-5 in the world

I don’t know those modifications, could you give me a brief summary of what they are for?

The IHQ (Improved Handling Qualities) package was an upgrade to standard F-5E frames, either retrofitted or applied during construction of the airframe. The IHQ package consisted of the W6 LERX, a flat tiger-shark style nose, and an automatic flap system. It was designed primarily to fix the F-5E’s poor handling qualities at high AoA maneuvers.

Do you have an example photo where you can specifically see the flat tiger-shark style nose?

mmm I’m not sure but I think it doesn’t have that modification if we compare it with the nose of the Chilean F-5

They don’t
Not a whole lot of F-5 operators ended up applying that modification

I’m kinda curious, is that a MAW sensor? Seems to have something extra on the tail, by the engine too.

They are the antennas of the indigenous RWR of Chile

Can it carry more countermeasures than the standard 45? Im hoping so because this will probably be 13.0. It’ll kinda be a strugle bus with that little CMs

Unfortunately not, but hey they’re single pop so that’s mildly helpful as it’s as useful as 90 double pop CMs. Not to mention you’re literally able to one flare EVERY IR missile that’s not an Aim-9M (like seriously I’ve one flared an R-73 in an F-5E from .5km away… I’m not even kidding, no preflaring involved). Chaffing ARH will be an issue however…

I always wondered if the large-caliber countermeasures had any difference from the normal ones in the game, but it is logical to think that they have better performance deflecting missiles.

I believe all existing F-5s, including the upgraded ones, can only carry 45 countermeasures at most. I read in the Thai F-5 suggestion that it could carry more, but I highly doubt it, especially if there is no photographic evidence to prove it.

In my suggestion I left you a high quality photo where you can see the countermeasures

I’m working on it, but so far haven’t found any images. But I have found a lot more images of the additional ALE-40 dispensers on the F-16A/B OCU and F-16A ADF mentioned alongside the F-5.

I think the most difficult part is knowing what to look for, with the F-16 it was simple since they are the same as the ALE-47 on the eMLU. But for the F-5 there is many possibilities. ALE-40 as normally used on the F-5 (30 small, 15 large in one launcher at the bottom), ALE-40 like the Taiwanese F-5A (30 small or 15 large each in two launchers, one on each side of the rear fuselage) or some other configuration possibly mounted to pylons all seem possible.

I’d still say it likely exists, since at least for some of the mentioned aircraft the additional ALE-40 was proven true, but without images it can’t really be reported unlike the F-16.

Absolute +1 for Israel tree.

But where would the additional countermeasures go? I imagine they would have to make structural modifications to accommodate more because originally there is no more space.

For what country exactly?

Im assuming, if we’re talking abt the thai F-5TH super tigris, that the extra CM systems would be mounted where the CMs are mounted on the F-5A/C. I guess its technically possible to mount additional countermeasures like that on the F-5E, but im not sure if it was ever trialed in real life, let alone implemented in thai upgrades of the F-5E/F

Israel, because it was the country that modified it and because of its close relations with Chile, would be perfect there.
