No RWR from incoming missiles?!

There’s a very very very cool website called Statshark full of useful tools like 3D render of a plane’s RWR, ballistic for missiles, aerodynamic, thrust and etc for planes, and u can even check the stats of ur teammates and enemies in real time when u’re playing a match.

Wait what? I though Statshark was a way for ppl to statshame each other into oblivion

how does gaijin allow it to have a real-time match viewer???

it could be an IR missel

Idk, but thx to Lynika (WT contet creator) i discovered that’s the reason why some players leave matches at the start.
They use the irt stats viewer and if their team sucks they just leave.

Believing the guy who made this topic is not stupid, it could actually be a RWR bug. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s true cuz when Gaijin fixes 5 bugs, other 500 appear.

could be

I’ve had at least two very distinct instances a month ago, where I got no RWR warning against SARH missiles, checked too in sensor view.

Spoiler

Case 1: MiG-25 (on the left) lost radar lock on me, but R-40RD seemingly still kept track (and no RWR warning). I think I also rotated a bit in flight or at least checked to see if it was in a potential blindspot, still it should not be TRK without host aircraft lock.

Case 2: Su-30SM2 maybe has a lock, but even it’s guiding on sidelobes (idk still how exactly this is modelled in game), if it’s enough to guide a missile, it must surely be enough to trigger RWR (100% sensitivity). Note also how the RWR warning I do get initially was not even in the right direction.

It may just be a case of weird client side issues, so maybe verify game files. May also have been some sort of desync, where the host aicraft did have a proper radar lock, yet not displayed client side. I haven’t really experienced this issue since, but then again I don’t really play at the BRs anymore where SARH is that common, at least I think this issue is only with SARH missiles.

My other theory is that, at least it would make somewhat sense looking at the code, is that SARH missiles are just conditional ARH missiles. Their “active” seekers only turn on when the host radar is in TRK mode, with the SARH seeker unable to trigger RWR. Either it’s only valid if it’s in some sort of cone in front of the host aircraft, or all around (or maybe limited by the radar gimbal limits). I will maybe try to test it later.

EDIT:

Spoiler

So idk really, my other guess is just sidelobes somehow can be weak enough not to trigger RWR but strong enough to guide a missile. But it seems range does matter on what kind of angle mismatch you can have for the missile still to track, at least tested with TRK MEM.

angle of TRK loss at 30km target:

Pretty much right after the missile went from TRK to IOG + DL, about a 13-14° angle difference.

angle of ‘TRK loss’ at 8km target:

Now technically the missile was held in TRK for even longer after that, even up to like 90° when I lost radar lock and it went back to SRC mode, but this is the largest offset before that happened. It’s about a 22-23° mismatch.

Replay may not be super accurate in terms of update rate, so it’s likely that for both the missile actually lost TRK mode status earlier, but the angle difference is still there.

I would need to test with an actual player with RWR to see if it still got triggered or not, but maybe it’s just this. Host radar beam is so far away from you that it doesn’t trigger RWR, while the missile still sees you as valid target due to sidelobes. I think a long while ago, they actually made it so that sidelobes would trigger RWR if they were strong enough to guide a missile, but perhaps that got broken now, or these are edge cases.

This is amazing.
I really like that it shows what each threat type shows up as (even if that is not always accurate to how it would function in real life.)

Was not SARH, it was ARH as im in 14.7

It wasnt, it was an AIM-120C-5

No

I was in the F-15C GE

Same RWR, Same Blindspot

It was an AIM-120C-5 and i was in the F-15C Golden Eagle, not sure if it was below or at the same altitude but since i didnt get an RWR warning it was directly infront of me

Can you share a replay?

Also to add to your statement
When the radar goes from TRK To TRK MEM the missile is will still be in tracking mode and this works for every SARH and ARH when they are in DL+IOG mode
Idk why this is a thing tbh

I cant do that i tried but the forums wont let me put videos here. Although i didnt get a warning that a missile was heading for me. It was an AIM-120C-5 and didnt know it was fired at me

The bug fix here at least explains my cases, since the MiG-25PD and SM2 are newer vehicles.

But I don’t know if this problem would extend to ARHs, at least I didn’t have problems with those.

Maybe share the server replay from here if you still remember what match it was. Anyways, the issue may just have been resolved. Idk if “certain missiles” include ARH ones, but maybe not. Would potentially explain it if the plane that fired the missile at you was like the AESA typhoon, or Super Hornet, any of the newer additions really.

Now I do think that likely if you view the replays now, the RWR will work properly, so if you have the video still, it would be better. You should just be able to share it in mp4, just drag the file in the text box. You may want to compress it/lower resolution/shorten if the file size is too large
