That’s because they were. The last Soviet Heavy tank was the Object 730(T-10). The Last US Heavy tank was the M103. If you had bothered doing some basic research, you would have figured out that Object 279 was produced in 1959.
Light Tanks, Medium tanks, and Main Battle Tanks were phasing out the Heavy tanks. Since the other vehicles could carry heavier guns but were far more maneuverable and flexible.
