Exactly, period. The MPK’s and SKR’s are so disgustingly lopsided and unfair at their BR making the slightest pretense that they are balanced for their BR insults the intelligence. The over-compression of coastal combined with their totally OP stats for BR makes playing against them in a PT an act of useless masochism.
SKR-7 overheats constantly and is among the worse 4.3s to play.
Pr206, Moskva, Z25, British destroyers, etc… more fun experience to use as they deal more damage per minute.
This is one problem of coastal-destroyer BR compression mostly.
Compared to other 3.3~4.3 coastal, SKR is untouchable, defnitely needs to go upper.
Meanwhile, for 4.3~5.3 destroyers, SKR is definitely not something to nerfed even though with rockets.
that’s a very good joke!
Between the overheat and abysmal first stage replenishment time if your complaining about SKRs let alone the 12412s its really just a skill issue.
Alternatively, buff everyone else’s coastals. Where is the Leander class frigate gaijin?
Yup Alvis has a longstanding track record of sharing his droll ‘humor’
ATM every nation except France have their own SKR most of them on BRs lower than 4.3
Entirety of coastal being between 3.3 brs is kinda insane. Wish they would make gamemode cater to a variety of vessels and make different classes worth spawning instead of just best for the BR + fast coastal on 3cp maps and then stretch out coastal along with bluewater BR and move bluewater down back to starting at 1.
Since the Leviathan update will thaw the BR of the bluewater fleet, the SKR should rise to at least BR 4.7 in the next BR revision when the coastal fleet BR changes are made.
The situation should improve a lot just by no longer matching ships with BR 3.3.
That would help, but do you know this to be true?
Hmm you might need to specify which exact vessels you mean, as while it’s no secret the the soviet tree is powerful (No. I spot imho) many of the MPK (Small Anti-Submarine Ship) & SKR (Sentry Ship) are quite shit tbh.
MPK 2.0 - 4.7
• Project 122 (three), weak to damage but potent with their main guns & 37 mm (one only gets 12.7 mm)
• Project 201 (two), kinda weak imo, easily overshadowed by faster boats with the same armament e.g: Project183 (one can lay mines)
• Project 204 (one), rather OP, should be a 4.0 or higher, has RBU-6000
• Project 1241.2 (two), squishy hulls but packs a punch weapon wise, DM buff & BR nerf could work
• Project 133.1M (one), would be OP if it had a small spawn, pretty good even down the internal BB-1 depth charges, lack of 3" shells is ehh (seen comments of it having a larger magazine apparently), a good DM tbh & RBU-6000, sadly no range finders nor ability to use strela missiles (all four corvettes tbh), rather slow for the spawn at BR.
• Project 11451 (one), hate fiji, to high of a BR to be effective
SKR 3.3 - 4.3
• Project 2 (one), meh imo basically a worse Derzky class destroyer (makes sense as a failed torpedo boat design) but with some 37 mm, extreme repair cost, weak hull dm
• Project 50 (three), imo until recently meh but the HE changes help this vessel, but the base SKR Yenot being 4.0 is daft compared the SKR Rosomacha & SKR Karl Marx with their RBU-2500, more torpedoes & more LAA (in case of Rosomacha)
• Project 159 (one)
• Project 35 (one)
Combined, both are past their prime time, their reign is long over an are imo just above average. Their DM’s are weak they’ve got a massive weak spot for the aft magazines & the ready rack are torture & probably should see a slight buff to reload rates as the off time for reloading the racks is to much for the chaos of in game battle were there’s little time to reload.
The SKR-7 at least gets the long range RBU-6000.
The only place imo that makes the soviets the best & could easily see the nerfs are the economics, we see the SKR Groza have a daft repair. So why not make the powerful vessels have higher repairs compared to other nations (we nearly had this but no no the the ground players complained about their economics an did their boycott)…
Add in ammunition costs as per British, American, Japanese & Italian ships their ammunition costs are quite insane & dig into sl gains forcing use of weaker shells in some cases (especially the British Type 41 pffft 50 sl per shell, used to be 60 sl), the only soviets vessels with high repairs is one TK & one MPK both with the AK-725 system with their 3900 sl belts.
Yet the soviets for the most part don’t have AP shells so shell economics don’t work to well unless shock shells starting costings yet that would effect everyone or make their HE-VT cost over 50 sl.
So repairs & BR changes are the best probable approach yet every increase in BR should see a buff & tbh this should’ve been how most machines were done or we end up like the Type 41 an increased BR but a gutted DM (all while having a high repair & ammunition costs).
TBH I think the Restigouche class Destroyer, Ayanami class Destroyer, Mitscher class Destroyer Leader, Type F120 Frigate, Type 41 AA Frigate are all more powerful then the Project 159 & Project 35 with them being a 0.3 BR lower or 0.4 BR higher, which is funny as they all use older 3"/50 cannons (the 3"/70 are seemingly better than the AK-276 nowadays imo), with the only things better than most of the MPK’s being the Freccia class Motoconvertibili, 1-Go class Patrol Hydrofoil, most German motor boats or the Albatros class Corvette vs the larger MPK’s.
If the french ever get their cold war arsenal, they’d be nasty as well like La Corse for starters (essentially the three of the secondaries turrets off the rebuilt cruiser now Chateaurenault class destroyer Guichen D607).
These are just my thoughts from playing them (notably one MPK) & vsing them with methods of defeating them, while powerful they lack in other places especially after many tweaks to them.
If we only look as their Sentry Ships (SKR), many of the other nations are already better & heh if certain ships are finally added they will be more powerful than any of the two main SKR’s, Hell just looking at Britain the Restigouche class destroyer is basically already there with that unlimited firerate (recently went back to it to give thought to someone grinding Britain, this thing post HE change is nasty, I just wish the government back then could’ve funded a secondary set of 3"/70 QF Mk. N1 cannons).
But this brings me to your comment, which Type 12I (Leander) batch are you most thinking of as a counter? As we already got the base Type 12 (Whitby class) which can kinda take on the other four SKR’s effectively.
The Leopard is probably the best counter for them - with 2 x twin 4.5" turrets.
The Whitbys (and any Leanders they may add) lack a bit of firepower with only the 1 gun turret and essentially useless ASW secondary armament.
My main comment does mention the Leopard class, although using the British nomenclature designation system as the Type 41.
It was when at 3.7 a monster yet the devs double nerfed it with the DM getting gutted the most impacting & the raise to 4.0, It probably could’ve gone to 4.3 if the DM wasn’t changed eg twelve engine blocks to three engine blocks & making it squishy for how much it cost to repair & the ammunition costs at time being 60 sl × 80 rpm = -4800sl a minute for SAP shells.
But currently the four cannons pumping out 80 shells a minute is an absolute beast but the current 4000 sl a minute penalty is annoying especially since 0.7 BR higher the same shells are 1 sl… Yet many of the kills I’ve gotten with this ship were against Project 35 frigates, Recently reused it yesterday an it was pretty good at BR but my internet hated me more than the enemy uuugh.
If a Type 12M/ Type 12I are ever added they better do it as mods or that would be a long research tree of difference batches.
Slightly offtopic
Niche, I was recently chatting with a bloke that served on a Type 12I, HMNZS Southland F104 Ex HMS Dido, also apparently the 4.5"/45 Mk. V cannons could fire 22rpm vs the in game 20rpm, I wonder what changes would be needed for that? (I think that bloke was pushing his seventies as he seemed knowledgeable on the cannons & Ikara mount along with service on a Type 12I).
Initial batch, the one with the 4.5in guns and seacat. Although if we get submarines and other funny things, I wouldn’t be opposed to ikara batch or even one of the Exocet batches.
Play with the new battleships and wait for the BR decompression of the coastal fleet. :D
