[Naval RB] Aiming problem

What’s going on in “Naval realistic battles”? When I aim at a ship, after a while I have to aim lower and lower and lower. Or another example — I aim, I shoot, and after a few salvos the ship decides to aim a kilometer closer, and when I try to adjust it back to the target, it suddenly jumps a kilometer up, then a kilometer down.

If i remember correctly (i don’t play much naval): The button you click to target a ship also sort of works like the rangefinder in Ground battles. You have to click it every once in awhile to “range find” again.

what happens? both you and the enemy ship are sailing towards each other… that means the distance gets shorter and shorter by every second. Makes perfect sense to have to under aim.
Make sure you lock the target and bind mousewheel to distance correction in controls.
Always check with the green blobber crosshair to see the real distance of the enemy and depending on the distance, undershoot by 0.2-0.5km if you want to hit him accurately.

Thx for reply. Maybe i try more explain this.

What I mean is that when I’m sailing towards the enemy, he’s sideways to me, but he’s getting closer to me, sometimes to aim at a given distance I have to go lower and lower, so that when zoomed in I can’t see the enemy anymore and my screen only sees water, then I move the camera away, after a while the crosshair shows me e.g. 5 km to the enemy and goes back to aiming directly at him. After a while the crosshair suddenly shows me fire at 6 km and I try to lower it. Then I have a problem determining the distance because the indicator jumps from e.g. 2 km to 6 km. The rangefinder shows me a new value but after a while it either goes lower again or loses the distance. I’ll see if it’s visible in a replay.

It actually keep updating the range

ok i have 2 shorts:

You haven’t target selected them.

it is replay error, i’m always targeting enemy :/

Its not been like that in about a year+ :D

The range finder updates when the range has suffeciently changed to need updating (its about 190/200m iirc) This is a terrible way to do it because if the target displays as say 9.4km and the target is moving towrads you slowly, it might actually be 9.21 km away but hasnt updated yet because it wont until 9.2km away. It should update with the lead updates on a regular time interval would be far better (working on a suggestion for it)

In the meantime, you have to aim for where the ship will be and not where the ship is, this often means having to lead your shot depending on their rate of distance change and also compensate for inaccuracies in the range displayed. Its a tricky skill to master.

Also, and dont quote me on this. I’ve had what felt like a little wierdness the last few days and swapping to a different target and then back again seems to actually give me more accurate ranging data. Its like it stops being accurate after too long. Im keeping an eye on it

I understand that, but if you see my camera go lower for time, or it show 2-3 km, but i try shoot on 5km…

Other than just adjusting the range by moving the cursor up and down, you can also adjust the range via keybinds too.

Search for “Distance Correction”

You may have set it to a keybind by accident and are hitting it during the course of battle

you can also set the mouse wheel to the same functionality

Make sure you’ve not got a keybind conflict

i bind it :)
