Mobile Land-based Phalanx Weapon System: Phalanx on Wheels

I am going to honest, I want this weapon system, not to kill CAS but to track and kill all of the CAS’s missiles and bombs they launch, can you imagine the rage an RU CAS will have if all of their missiles and bombs are killed before they hit the targets

People get upset but as long as its still profitable.

Everything without AHEAD useless against munition.

It feels like the Airfield needs it more than the TT does, as it will help intercept AGM to avoid spawn camp.

Why not both? These types of weapons would be still cool to see being the ultimate berrrrt.

Already have an XM246 for the 8.3 lineup. And kind of tired after the recent event and 5.8k hours of grinding.
But if it allows to deploy multiple vehicles like the top tire does, if would be great tho. Talk about some no fly zone for the low-alt jets and missile spaming.

+1 this would be so epic!

It would be like that spawn AA from what I think is the battlefield game that can somehow target tank shells

snail if you add this i will buy more premiums

Bad day to be a BMP or Boxer.

Israel also has a very similar vehicle with the HVSD/ADAMS, it has been forwarded to the devs for a while now, +1 for both these vehicles i would love to see them in game

It would be amazing to have this and I think it should definitely come to the game!

Its a little bit of a weird one though, being such a short range system with really sophisticated tracking. It would have the ability to deny the enemy from landing missiles and bombs but not necessarily have the ability to actually kill the vehicle that launched them.

I actually think it might fit perfectly as a Squadron vehicle, which is a great way for those kind of niche situational vehicles to be added to the tech tree without technically adding them to the tech tree:

It’s the same gun as M163, so the range will be just as limited. Doesn’t mean it can’t kill CAS though.

Yes it can kill CAS, but only if they are within the effective range of the gun. Around the battle rating that this would probably sit there are aircraft and helicopters that are able to launch missiles and guided bombs outside of the effective range of this gun. What I’m saying is that it has the capability to stop those aircraft from killing but does not always necessarily have the ability to kill them, when they stay far away.

Its kind of like the Soviet laser projects which can destroy the target’s optics and prevent them from effectively using their weapons but also cannot output enough power to physically damage the rest of the aircraft. The advantage of the Phalanx is that it can actually physically kill them if they get close

The balancing issue is that if you put it too low then it completely shreds all of the Helis and CAS aircraft that have to get close to drop their unguided rockets and bombs. However, if you move it up it still does what its supposed to do and eliminates munitions, but also doesn’t actually kill a lot of player aircraft and helicopters.

Knowing that vehicles are balanced by statistics makes this a little weird to balance and the vehicle as a whole has an unusual playstyle compared to other SPAAs. That’s why I’m suggesting it be a squadron vehicle because they can balance it however: it doesn’t force them to move it up, down and around other vehicles in the tech tree, and its unusual playstyle is better suited for players who specifically want to go research and use this vehicle.

I don’t think it’ll be that good since in the end the gun is mid as hell. It’ll probably be fine at 7.7 like other early radar AAs.

I disagree with the idea that just because this has the 20mm that means that it should be placed next to the other early radar guided SPAAs.

Consider the fact that the Phalanx has a 360 degree search radar, thermals, and a tracking system theoretically capable of shooting down things as small as mortar rounds. Placing this at 7.7 is saying that its only a slight upgrade over the M163, an SPAA which has no search radar, no thermals, and a tracking system that couldn’t lock onto the side of a flying barn. I don’t really see this being placed any lower than 8.0

Don’t forget the Two-plane stabilizer!

It can move around and shoot at you with the better radar it has. (ofc with the turn radius of a semi trailer but it is still a moving target

It’s not a big upgrade considering the gun’s effective range is rather short, having a very drastic drop off. Besides, We have things like ZSU-37-2 and PGZ88 at 7.7 which are stabilized, have a 360 deg search radar, long effective range, high pen gun which allows them to engage tanks and PGZ88 even has heavy armour for AA.

It’s essentially just a super large M163 with search radar and stabilizer.

+1 Would love to see this added, it’d be so good at destroying missiles , Gaijin add this and I’ll buy a premium I swear
