from what i’ve read both were designed in parallel but with high percentage of unification in mind. And about 9.41 i’ve read that pretty much every “modern” MiG apart from 9.18 and 9.19 takes its root from 9.31 airframe, but i can’t be sure 100% on that.

enough offtopic, we all know we wont get r-73 on the™ fulcrum any time soon

it seems there is a 9.31 airframe on display in Severodvinsk, but that’s like half a country away from where i live :(

As far as I know, all “modern” MiG-29s (29K/35) are based off the MiG-29M 9.41S from the early 2000s, one of the MiG-29M 9.15’s (154 Blue) was converted into a MiG-35 testbed based off the 29M design iirc.

But as far as I’ve ever read the 29M 9.41 isn’t much related to 9.15/31 besides namesake.

Well, airframe still holds the key elements of 9.15/9.31 - increased leading edge slats, bigger tail with dogtooth, sharp LERX edge similar to Flankers instead of smooth one, raised pilot seat, intakes with articulated lower part, single airbrake, etc.
And the fact that all MiG-29M/K/35 have the distinct 9.31 wing with the ridge around the folding place as well as bigger flaps that protrude fruther than ailerons makes me believe that they are closer to 9.31 than 9.15

ive made a basic chart from showing what is a development from what and etc from what i have gathered. what im still not to sure about is the 9.41 connection back to the 9.15 or 9.31. im pretty sure its the 9.31 since the whole 9.41 project was started from india wanting a carrier capable aircraft from their new carrier they just bought and they deemed the current 9.31 model to be not good enough from what i have read. And all the land based 9.41/61 are offshoots from that

Just saying

9.31K → 9.31
9.41SM/47SM → 9.41S/47S

Never seen anything official call them that so I think those are just designations people have made up and spread around.

you gonna hate me but, you know what will be cool ?

make a website exactly like this and we can click on each one and have specifics for each one so we dont repeat the same question.

or you can make extremly big image that would be cool too

yeah i dont think there are official designations for them but i have heard the SM being used for the Egyptian and Algerian variants so thats what i have preferred to use to distinguish them tbh

This airframe looks like based on 9.15 - flaps and aelerons end on the same line, no ridge on a wing, leading edge slat is single piece and spine is clean with with smooth airbrake.
