Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

let me see if i can find something like that for the german migs

but what i have are training papers that were published by the military academy in the GDR

I started digging into this and the problem seems to be way deeper than this sentence:

Concepts like the Oswald efficiency factor and Lift Coefficient aren’t constants, they are variables. This means that they change depending on the flight regime of the plane

For example, the MiG-29 has an e_0 of around 0.85, according to an academic paper. Given the value, its plausible to afirm that it holds for subsonic speeds. However, in higher speeds and supersonic regime, this values decreaces drastically. I couldnt find any values for the M29, but according to Wikipedia it normally drops to 0.3 or 0.5 for high performance jets in general.

This also applies for the Lift Coefficient. There’s a formula that allows to estimate C_L at different Mach speeds, altho it loses accuracy drastically when compressibility comes into play (Basically anything above M 0.3).

I dont know how does WT model these values, but i’d bet they treat both as constants and they dont change with speed. This means that one has two options: Either accurate performance at slow regimes and drastic overperformance at supersonic, or abysmal performance on subsonic speeds for slightly more accurate performance at supersonic regimes. You can possibly guess whats the case of both Su-27 and MiG-29.

And also other planes such as Mirage 2000 and F/A-18, they all seem to lose way too much speed and output less turn performance when compared to a plane that beats none of them in real life in 1 circle fights (F-16).

IF my guess on OE and C_L being treated as constants is correct, then this issue boils down to either engines limitations or dev incompetence. Engine limitation seems like the answer given that this engine was designed to model accurately FM of props whose max speed is far from 800km/h, not to mention supersonic speeds. But then again, this game has +10 years, plenty of time to make changes on the engine or change engine altogether, but oh well.

The OE is a constant ingame and is used to shift the Sep curves up or down

10 years?

Iv played since jan and out of the 6 friends who got me into WT… theres only me left. Some played for over a decade.

When you have a gun game where the guns are a broken mess, most people call it a day.

Maybe ground will carry WT into the future but air is dead man walking

Su-27 with the unique ability of being mid at low speed and fairly overpeforming at high speed. Mig-29 ehhh, idek atp.

Well, congrats guys. We now have F-16 airframe with 6 IRCCM missiles (4 of which are Magic 2s) at 12.7 while MiG-29 still stuck with R-60Ms because “Russian Bias”

Just lol.

F16AJs final nail.

Aprrox 300 jets in WT… not many are fun/ compete in uptiers and now theres now 4 less. WP gaijin, quite the achievement…

Pay2win (by the time anyone gets it for free it will be moved up to 13.0)

  • It will be 13.0 on second dev
  • It will be 13.0 on release
  • it will be 13.0 by the time anyone gets it with squadron RP (you are currently here)

you forgot

  • it will be 13.0 once the dev server opens

i will absolutely love fighting F-16A with Magic 2s and 9M in my Flogger fr.

Looks like it’s still 12.3
But I won’t get it fast enough so whatever

Honestly i think gaijin genuinely just forgot it existed as soon as they added it which kinda tells you how little even they cared about this update.

Im genuinely convinced we’d be better off spending our time in creating another small simcade rather than wasting it with this dumpster fire of unbalance and nonsense.

mig-29 in game is 0.63 for oswald
also mig-29 matches up quite well with charts and polars which is annoying because it’s really not underperforming a lot in any specific metric

I just noticed the MiG-29 got single release countermeasures, 60 pops total is not bad ngl.
