Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

Oh Sniper also looses IRST (at least in current version on dev) so this is another trade-off, but good RWR and radar absolutely outweigh this

What about the MiG-29G? With the 27ER and R73 already at 13.0

Yep, would have turned into a Mig-29G but with an actual RWR and radar

If they removed the 27ER from the 29G it would still be worse in terms of sensors, the Sniper at least gets an actual RWR

Russia having the worst MiG-29 variants is kinda whack

  1. MiG-29G
  2. MiG-29 sniper when it releases
  3. MiG-29 9-13/9-12 in Russia/german/Italian tree

Well, i find SPO-15 to be serviceable, it’s not as unusable as something like F-14A RWR. But Sniper one is indeed a significant upgrade in comparison.

Thought the MiG-29G already had the inproved RWR my mistake

Yep, especially considering its a late 90’s upgrade

Actually Mig29 Sniper is for Italy, not for Russia.

I know I was just ranking all mig 29s in the game based on their performance/excpected performance for their br

Most likely Gaijin doesn’t want to put it directly at “suffer br”. They could stretch it even more by giving it AMRAAMs for example and placing it at 13.3 considering that sensors wise it is 29SMT equivalent. But slamming little Timmies directly into 14.0 uptiers agains MICA and C-5 would be not the smartest financial decision.

I highly doubt AMRAAM would even be sold to it at that time, maybe Derby. Even then, it’s a MiG-29, it can carry R-73’s. This thing is already better than the current MiG-29 at it’s current BR due to better radar and RWR. Giving it R-73’s would just be better

Why?
they put timmies in their f4s or mig23 against the F14 before

yeah, but i guess gaijin learned from that mistake? Last update they put totally 13.0 worthy Hornet at 12.7 and 12.7 worthy Hornet at 12.3 to avoid P2W situation. Sniper right now just repeats the same problem in my opinion.

idk about that, f14a rwr is digital which makes it 10x more usable than an spo-15 due to the accurate threat angles - lets u actually notch reliably which is huge. Even with the ‘?’ targets lol, its a big step up in capability

I will disagree. Spo-15 gives you signal accurate enough for a reliable notch. I had little to no problems with notching everything but MICA in Su-27. But you will struggle against MICA even with digital RWR because of that notch window.

Worser than soviet one(9-19) in case of CMs, radar, rwr. But a bit better flight perfomance… and added later “better”…

I mean it gives a signal, I wouldn’t call it reliable – sure I use it notching frequently as well and find good success with it too. However the general distinction is im just getting info from it to acquire the missile then visually judging 90 degree’s via the smoke trails from the missile and wont trust the rwr as it simply isn’t accurate enough. Whereas with a digital rwr u can trust entirely the bearing it gives and don’t need that visual feedback to help u - which is why i think for that at least i would say the tomcat A rwr is just objectively better
