there was the 9.18 tech demonstator, didnt enter service with the vvs tho
19M isn’t that much better. It’s differences would be similar to things like different APG 68 variants.
Maybe more range and slightly better tracking but nothing crazy
theres no 9.19 without the fat spine? all pics of smt without the spine i can find are 918
no the closest is the 9.18 variant which is the same as the 9.19 SMT except the fat spine
And i do not believe the 9.18 gets the extra CMs the 9.19 gets.
So ya trade the spine + some CMs for the better FM
would the cms on the 29m (9.15) ( the 1990s one) be single or double pop
in real life?: up to what the pilot chooses like on every other plane
in war thunder?: up to what gaijin chooses
SPO-15. L-150 is 9-19R
Aye, im back, the dude who keeps making bug reports on the MiG-29 high on copium.
I took a break from this game, and i came back just today to analyze F-16’s performance as i thought that it was hilarously overperforming at high AoA and instantaneous turn rate;
I started investigating and putting equations together to find a discrepancy only to realize that its performance and drag matches the info and mathematic analysis that i did;
To summarize, the higher the lift of the wings, the higher the induced drag. I can’t be bothered to write the equation here altho it isnt complicated. After that, i decided to check out the MiG-29 to see that it produces TWICE the amount of drag for 8 degrees less of pull @ 671 km/h. To be clear, 42585 kgf of drag, 24.4 °/s, and 22° AoA, which is absurd considering the MiGs small size and weight. To put on perspective, thats the same ammount of drag the Su-27SM produces at that same speed, a way bigger plane.
I immediately started reverse engineering to see what was up and, considering the lifting body the MiG-29 has, it needs to pull 17Gs (~51°/s) at 671km/h and produce ~221 TONS of lift to reach such an ammount of drag with the Lift Coefficient obtained from the Drag Coefficient. Beyond absurd.
Ill start gathering info about this, but i have a theory. The MiG-29 manual has a Max Obtainable G-Load chart, and my theory is Devs squeezed the performance of the MiG to meet that limit and completely forgot to change the drag to match both coefficients, which would explain the laughable energy bleed.
Ill sniff another tank of copium and see how this thing goes.
no HMD 120s, vs HMD R-77s and R73s. looks fair enough to me lol
i dont understand this refusal to make mig29s agile, its not like they will be the strongest in the game, they would compete with the f16a(which arguably overperfoms but its a dumb thing to point out in wt). its not like flight perfomance is SO important either. no mig29 carries a meta loadout ingame(although the mig29smt and g’s are very good).
It’s pretty fair tbh. 120A has triple the effective range of an R-77 and, unlike SMT, F-16 have agility to notch more than one missile at a time. HMD is a handy tool but it is not something that makes or breaks a plane.
I’m sure that’s all the details!!
its not most definetly the most blatant, smt has significantly worse flight perfomance, they have an equally shit CM Count.
but lets not act like Having HMD and IRCM fox 2s is anywhere near a small advantage.
its not, but it doesn’t equalize the aircraft either
i think it does personally, but im probably overly reliant on HMD.
the R73 and R77 turn for you
I wish that’s how the 29SMT played
its not because of ARB really, but you are right that smt isnt used in dogfights
