Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 1)

I was replying to Pyroraptor… thanks?

Iduno you guys (not you) are slowly convincing me that GJ is now building a hedge around the West lol.

So I am getting a little woried.

İ believe Gaijin chose this path because of marketing mostly.

Remember what happened when they showed us Viggen for the first time? Everyone was so hyped and ready to grind that plane, just like when they showed Tomcat and F-16.

Russia has Also very iconic jets in 4th gen, Mig29,Sukhoi 27 both are legendary in terms of legacy, but i believe western planes will bring more profit then Eastern planes.

Just imagine how much profit will they earn when they introduce Legendary Eagle, the plane that has zero loss and 104 kill score.

Yes, and if they make the eagle anything short of OP there might be another boycott lol.
Thats why I think they are going to give us the Su27 first. Iron out all the issues and fine tune it first before 3 nations get the F15 all at the same time.

The Israeli one used python’s good lord. Omg I can see it now. They need to get this SMT propper and the Su27 first and give China its first variation of the Flanker/J-10 too.

F-15 is a sidestep from the F-14 tbh, idk why it’s expected to be “OP”… as far as it’s relevance to the game it will be a important stepping stone for Japan until we get to the point of them adding the Mitsubishi F-2.

Yeah, AMRAAM capability doesn’t show up until F15C MSIP II, that leaves an entire earlier variant and two upgrade cycles between the basic airframe and BVRAAM capability.

iirc the basic C was entering service right after the MLD in ~'82. Still just sparrows, sidewinders, and the Vulcan.

F14 is arguably more advanced because until MSIP II (mid 90’s) it was the only aircraft in service with active radar missiles

I don’t know what any of that has to do with how it’s gonna be no better / worse than the F-14s…

Most of the F15 kills were done in the Middles East without AMRAAMS.

Yeah, that’s overlooked but in-game the F-15 / F-14 will just be variety in the tech tree and introductory dates aren’t really relevant for the game.

Survivability and acceleration & climb rate have no bearing? Thrust to weight? No?

Additionally the advancements in its radar built upon lessons of the Awg9? The different modes and techniques with High PRF stated in you radar book that you never read but like to reference?

Fascinating.

Then he uses introductory dates as relevance.

Well yeah that’s been apparent since forever (F4E fighting MiG-23MLD for one)

I mean that the F14 and F15 were developed at practically the same time, with the same technologies available to them. So as you said the F15 is more of a sidestep (excluding MSIP II) to the F14

Fundamentally it is going to come down to MPRF and good dogfighting but sparrows vs extremely long-range but HPRF missiles/radar and meh dogfighting in the game. (Again, excluding MSIP II)

It further proves my point that gaijin doesn’t care about dates. You’re saying the R-27ER outperforms the Phoenix made 30 years earlier… interesting… but if you want to take things out of context that’s on you

The one you misunderstood despite multiple people explaining it in different more broken-down methods? The one you continue to never reference along with all the other mystery sources used for most of your unfounded assertions?

ok sure.

So how is the F15 not going to be technologically superior in the meta? Especially since the Awg9 is gimped and we are forced to use Aim7Fs? No ETA on the Aim54 confirmed either.

F14 has dramatically better sensor integration (TISEO should be able to slew sidewinders seekers, AIM-54 datalink, and CW illuminator. Same for IRST on F-14D)

F14 Also has A2G capability with paveways, dumb bombs, rockets, and rockeyes. F15 was literally designed under the mantra "Not a Pound For Air-To-Ground

Also F-14 had much more advanced datalink and general sensors, excluding the lack of MPRF radar. It got GPS with the LITENING pod, LINK-4 since the F-14A (AWACS to Aircraft target marking), LINK-16 (Aircraft to Aircraft target sharing) + An exceptional IRST with the F-14D, and some F-14As had JHMS as well.

Of course, there is only so much we can do until Gaijin actually goes though with it and un-gimps the AWG-9, FCS, and Phoenixes, but theoretically the F-14 is still a competitor with the F-15. (F-14D will also have MPRF radar and IRST with full integration but that isn’t yet present in game)

Also does anyone have any links/info on Russian IRSTs from this era?

Careful mentioning MPRF, it was a downgrade from HPRF to him in weeks prior… now it’s going to be the pinnacle of aviation radar technology if you say the same thing I’ve been telling him about it for weeks. Calling it now.

@_Fantom2451 probably has something

Totally agree 100%. let me know when that capability comes fully to WT.

There is definetely something wrong with proximity fuzes currently. R-73 Failing to detonate and just going past the target…
