Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 1)

Useability in dogfights might be noticeable to us in sim but without IRCCM useability in dogfights falls apart in the modes most players actually play, so its not compelling to me as a balancing point. In general, a missile being useable in an RB dogfight means that you’re fighting an opponent who, as you’re in a dogfight with them, almost certainly sees you and will almost always flare, to the extent that I genuinely get surprised when they don’t flare

If they don’t drop burner (for example, F-14) they will die to the R-60M
If they do drop burner, they die to the guns.

Very useful missile.

If the mig29 is limited in aoa to historical levels, then the f16 should be limited to its 25.5° of aoa as is historical.

All aircraft should be limited to doing only what they were really capable of irl.

I’d be in favour of the 1.5x modifier removal would make things far more interesting imo

That would be unrealistic. Aircraft can pull beyond the rated G.

Yes they can but it’s not common

It’s not common in real world practice but entirely capable.

i’m unironically considering researching the entire german tree just because of the mig29G, it won’t be a complete waste anyway because soon they’ll get the typhoon

It will be good , definitely better than overnerfed dogshit aircraft for USSR that gaijin keeps adding, I’m surprised they haven’t removed the engines from soviet top tier jets

I did it and didn’t regret it (except Betty, Rita is better imo) + the G is lighter than the 9.13 since it’s a 9.12, and with how broken Gripen FM is currently you’re glad that you lost 200kg ;)

The SMT is capable of firing at 4 targets simultaneously. And also he can’t drive 2 R-27 or 4 R-77 in the game for some reason

Played the SMT a little bit before and after this update and it looks like the R27ER is still experiencing the ‘proxy fuze’ issues from a few months ago (which were apparently a desync issue), seeing multiple near misses in ideal conditions where the missile should have gone off. Heli-launched ATAS aam is also blatantly flying through targets.

It’s funny that playing with mig29smt is the most miserable experience in this game for me lol, but playing with mig29 9.13 is much better, at least imo, I feel more confident knowing that I can dogfight, so im grinding the su27 with the 9.13 but damn, r60s are really trash D:

I saw that you guys had been discussing the FM and thrust values of the MiG-29 for a long time, what was your final conclusion?

MiG-29 thrust is correct in-game (or as close as it should really get) because the intake incurs losses for various reasons - especially when maneuvering or at low speeds.

f16s are still overperforming so doesnt matter how accurate the 29 is, it cant beat a ufo, but overall the 29 feels nice (the smt is still a boat but makes sense i think)

It’s as accurate as the current game mechanics allow it to be, we were feeling that the mig was underperforming but it had more to do with the overperforming western aircraft, which, by the way, are still overperforming.

It is actually slightly underperforming in thrust Community Bug Reporting System ;-)
