You are talking solely about range? It does not matter. The R73 is heavier and not as aerodynamic as the Aim9. That is why it does not fly as fast asside from its thrust vectoring.
Its at undeniable fact even to the layman that has a brief understanding of fluid dynamics just by looking at the missiles.
As for the 30km range? I take that with a grain of salt.
It is literally Soviet/Federation doctrine to exaggerate about anything made public. It is written military doctrine actually.
I do have a question to the weight of the Mig29s. I thought earlier Mig29s were heavier due to lack of composite materials and the new version having them are more apparent. So should the SMT really feel as heavy as it does?
I though Mig29s are only supposed to get better regardless of added capabilities
SMT is built on 9-12 airframe
Are there new models made or upgraded from older 9-12s?
I thought there was some new ones fresh built?
I am sure they swapped what they could to make them lighter no?
???
Max speed Aim-9M 2,5 Mach, R-73 Mach 2.5
Where is faster?
The fact of what?
Treat it further
I didn’t say it’s upgraded from 9-12, I said airframe is same. I don’t know about how all 9-19 were actually built.
SMT this is an overgrown mutant
I asked you to clarify.
Just because the airframe is the same does not mean they used the same materials through out
Using different materials is making airframe different. Iirc some SMTs (or maybe all) are built from 9-13SE, not sure, I believe there is no official information on this.
Oh my bad nevermind they same top speed in game. One is just more aerodynamic and accelerates (should) more than the other to top speed.
R-73 Surpasses the Aim-9M due to the engine. Acceleration is much faster
No… Airframe is the structure of the aircraft. The materials used within can be much different. Which it is a different structure for the SMT and therefore a different airframe completely defeating your notion.
The SMT definitely has had structural changes. the hump the refueling probe etc.
Can I get someone who knows about the Mig29 please?
The MiG-29SMT is a redesign of the 9-13 airframe, without any new materials
it is a new airframe then. Thank you.
I will find the source I read a while back about materials used in earlier mig29s as opposed to composite materials in later variants. I just do not think it should be too much of a difference in FM performance and same fuel loads.
Its not a mutant bro lol. Its actually my favorite Mig29 in game. Its like a NATO version of the Mig29 to me. I just fly it like a tomcat or standoff platform.
A large amount of composite is used in the new Migs

That thing is so cool. Which variant?
Yeah, I am sure that one is nothing but composite materials. But the SMT is from what year again? The Russians definitely used more composite materials. It would be insane if they did not.
Mig-29M 2009-2012 year. SMT 2004-2008

Mig-29KUB 9-47 first flight 20 january 2007
Another point is if extending the range was so important to Mikoyan to the point of enlarging the airframe, why wouldn’t they use more composite materials than once used in older versions??? They had to.
Yes, it is undeniably heavier, but how much would much of that weight should be really felt?
Cmon that is a good point, no?
Something is defintely going on with proxy fuses, happened to me plenty times with AIM-9M and now first battle with R-27 family…
