Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29/35 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

The MiG-35 is one of the best FMs in game.

This is the closest we will ever get to la peace.

just you wait, it’s the first iteration

Can’t wait for them to re-create the mig 29 smt’s old fm from first principles.

i don’t think it will be that bad, but i don’t think that those two graphs will be this much apart

MiG-35 lost 1.2 tons by becoming not naval. I wonder how true those numbers actually are

Finally I can post. This thing is an absolute beast, insanely fun to fly, like the KR, and it pretty much has everything. It’s only missing a bit of top end speed at high altitude, but you can’t have it all. Still, it’s easily one of the best airframes I’ve ever flown. It feels incredibly fresh

I think so, 1.2 tons less is a pretty noticeable difference, especially when both aircraft have almost the same airframe and engines. The lower weight improves TWR, acceleration, climb and energy recovery, which then helps it keep more speed and sustain better G and turn rate. Since the KR and 5S are so similar aerodynamically, that weight gap becomes even more noticeable

I meant how true this number is to real life. MiG-35 being lighter is known fact, but would naval equipment and airframe changes increase the weight this much. Especially considering that MiG-35 got additional avionics like MAW and LWS sensors installed, they aren’t weightless after all

True, at the end of the day there’s never a fixed value for cases like this, but these are factors that are already taken into account when the weight is modeled, i think so

it is very much guesses, only number i have from a source is gordons book which claims 11000kg

the Mig-35 has less thrust than the 29KR btw

Less thrust than KR in emergency mode. Technically engines are the same

Yeah, I already checked it. I meant similar, since the naval version has a slightly higher thrust percentage because of its emergency thrust mode, but the difference is small compared to the weight difference

yes but for statshark everyone uses 110% throttle

so the Mig-35 achives better flight performance with less thrust

RD-33MK on 106% thrust has same power as 33K at 110%
I wonder how much thrust of 29KR would be regular RD-33MK levels

You have the first book at hand? Iirc there’s 9.31 and 9.15 weight data, would be a good guessing point to see the difference between these two

its 109%

and this is the diffference when they both have the same ammount of thrust

What extra ton of weight does to a mf

i have the 2008 on digital form an the 2019 on physical copy

2008 version gives empty weight figures on the 9.41 of 12400kg
2019 version gives an empty weight of:
11600: 9.15
12700 9.31
11000 9.41SR

that is pretty close to the numbers gaijin picked for the empty weight of the Mig-35 and the 29KR
