Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 & MiG-31 Foxbat / Foxhound - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

i wonder how loud are those humongous engines. 110 kN of Thrust is no joke

Btw, is the engine sound placeholder rn? Because the sound is has right now doesn’t even remotely capture how loud this thing is IRL…

Yeah like, they are comically loud, even from videos, so 1st person must be insane.

This is MiG-31 ofc, but you get the idea of how loud engines that big are:

Funny that originally R-15s were planned for the strategic cruise missile but then someone had a bright idea to just slap it into an actual jet. Could also explain glorious 150 hours life between repair on first model

Mig-31 uses different engines tho

here is a Mig-25:

here is another one:

Yes that’s true

I remeber a video of a lowpass where the engines were howling like crazy, that would sound so cool if modelled.

even funnier ones, we take a D-30 from a Tu-134 rework it and slap bloody afterburner

this?

Nope not this, it was much slower, and the intakes being hit by air were making almost a Su-57-like noise.

But this video also gives the idea.

Big ass R-37’s damn.

such a shame that MiG-31M haven’t seen the light of entering service. Could be an absolutely amazing interceptor

R-33 actually, you can see tail fins protruding and being close to the missile wings
