The F-2 is a fighter
Its not, primary role of the F-2 are anti ship strikes and ground supression, fighting other airplanes is secondary
It’s a multirole fighter, just like the F-16, Rafale, Typhoon, Gripen, etc
The F-1 is the one you are thinking about, as it’s a T-2 modified for the anti-ship and ground attack role.
Edit: scratch the F-4, got my classifications mixed up, the F-4 is a fighter-bomber
I don’t want F-2 to be another fighter anymore because I play Ground. Whay a very wasted slot to make F-2 as a fighter because we just got Thai line that can CAS as fighter and the strike aircraft right now for Japan is just poop A-7E. So, if F-2 come as strike I can play both F-16/Gripen + F-2 that will be very nice. I’m waiting Sweden to get F-18D as strike but it is not going to happen.
It’s not going to get the strike role in-game as it’s not a fighter-bomber (Tornado IDS, Su-34) or strike-fighter (F-15E)
The comments in that bug report discuss why the Fighter classification is correct.
This case is similar to the F/A-18A/C which are classified as Fighters in-game as well, despite Attacker being part of their designation (F/A = Fighter/Attacker)
As it says directly here on the website of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, it’s a “close support fighter jet”. In other words Multirole Fighter.
Remember, youre talking about those who wanted to introduce spall liners to a select few tanks, and give it to more vehicles at a later time…
I know but in-game I don’t want to make it too fixed you know. If you play ground and play more than 1 aircraft in line up you will know how struggle it is to play. Then take that realistic role apart and make it fit to the game and help making it more enjoy is better imo.
We still don’t have a singular unique low tier Hungarian plane in the Italian tech tree 6 (now 7) updates after the Hungarian line’s introduction.
I know how spawn costs work in WT, but that’s not a proper reason to classify a multirole fighter as a strike aircraft.
The F-4s, MiG-27s, F/A-18s, etc are fighters in-game because of their air-to-air capabilities, even though they are built for attack/strike roles as well.
The same goes for the F-2 and all other multirole fighters in-game.
They haven’t even bothered to add the low rank German planes used by Hungary, even though some of them would actually help Italy at those BRs
You fail to realize, that if every multirole capable fighter gets the same classification you would still have the same problem.
Kh-38MT and ML both have a self-destruct range of 40km in-game. This has not changed.
Furthermore me and some friends tested every map in the game to see how far out the border was if you just flew away from the battlefield after spawning your plane, and for most maps its at around 25km. For the handful of ground maps that are also air RB maps it was 90km. For some older maps it was under 15km, and for whatever reason on Flanders the north team hits the border at only 13km.
Kh-38 cannot use its full range 99% of the time, and the planes also cant escape the range of these SAM systems on most maps. They will always be stuck defending even if they have to mess up to die.
Interesting, good to know. Kudos to you and your friends for testing that.
However, from what I’ve seen the SAMs can indeed still be dodged without too much trouble. Instead of staying out of the range CAS players will have to drain the SAMs energy. The Su-30s and Su-34s will likely still be able to fire their salvo towards their opponents spawn and re-arm afterwards, it’s just gonna take a bit more time.
We could really do with some new classifications I think.
Like “Fighter-Bomber”, “Multirole”, etc etc.
Not only would this help even out the SP cost spawn advantage that a few nations have by being able to spawn in very capable multiroles with the “strike aircraft” designation. But would allow aircraft like the F-2 to be more appropriately placed.
Also go back and adjust the designation of existing aircraft like the Sea Harrier from Strike aircraft to naval fighter
i hope they just let sams rearm as much as they can , because with the gnss change , su30/34 can easily spam kh38s literally from the airfield or close to the airfield. but SLM can easily intercept those but the issue is that it will run out of missiles.
The update is about to release?
They definitely should work on improving the classification system, but we both know that this won’t be happening. Balancing the spawn costs is easier if you just divide planes into 3 (just 2 after Rank VI) categories and ground vehicles into 5 (4 past Rank VI and just 3 at Rank VIII) categories.
Loads of tanks and planes have incorrect classifications and there are some classifications that don’t get used as much as they should be:
- Jet Bomber (Su-24 is a tactical bomber, F-117 is more of a stealth bomber than a “Strike Aircraft”, as Gaijin puts it and let’s be real, interdictors like the F-105, F-111, JH-7 and Tornado should be classified as Jet Bombers, not Strike Aircraft)
- Air Defense Fighter, Interceptor and especially Jet Interceptor (of which there’s only one and it’s the Vautour IIN, the classification even has a unique colour)
- Tank Destroyer and Anti-Tank Missile Carrier (this probably is a spawn cost thing, but a lot of the Light Tanks at the higher ranks are Tank Destroyers IRL)
Spoiler
Also, there is a couple of planes labelled as Torpedo Bombers that still get treated as Fighters rather than Attackers/Strike planes (F6Fs and the Fw 190 A-5/U14)
