I don’t think that’s correct. Hunnicutt source says the combat weight is 24,470 kg, which is about 24.5 metric tons or 27 US Tons.

Might be a confusion of US and metric tons. It shouldn’t be about as heavy as an early Sherman despite being smaller and having roughly equal or weaker armor.
