M1E1 Abrams

M1e1
Basically the prototype of the m1a1

It retains the m1 turret but with what looks like add on steel plates

The gun is also the RH-120 L44 and not the m256 so it wouldn’t fire m829 ammunitions

+1 never heard of this before

+1 would be a great foldered vehicle or an event. Preferably in a folder though. Great suggestion!

you do know that nato guns can all use the same ammo right?

it sure sounds like cacti if you ask me. At 10.7 we have the M1 Abrams with 105 and pretty much nonexistent armor, and at 11.3 we have the M1A1 with better armor and serial 120mm cannon and M829. So this bad boy would most likely fit 11.0, but there are no other machine at 11.0

I dont really see the use of this tank except for the event reward

Is the front of its turret equipped with armor plates or just counterweights?

Steel plates to simulate the weight of a new armor package intended for the production version.

honestly I could see it as viable, M1A1 armor isnt that great anyway and this will be noticeably faster

The gun used on the M1E1 is the XM256, and fired XM827, the DU version of the German DM13 round, as well as XM829, the latter of which achieved validation phase testing in February 1981. If you have any sources stating the gun was the German version of the gun and not the American modified one, I’d appreciate it.

is it? author said tis the L/50

well, idk, the M1A1 at least does not get penned with 3BM42s and 3BM60s tho. And it has pretty good ammunition it shoots.

Tho i can see it moving a bit faster tho, but not as fast as M1 anyway
Still, idk. DOes not sound fair to put it at 11.3
Thy i guess it depends on ammunition then

+1 could this thing also have a auto loader as well?

No, it did not.

I think it would help if there were further clarification on which M1E1 this is suggesting, there were numerous prototypes with various differences, including the extended turret (instead of the short turret with applique plates):

I suggested a general, catch-all M1E1 since to my knowledge these changes to the various prototypes wouldn’t have a major effect on gameplay. I also don’t feel we need more than one M1E1, and I’ll leave it to Gaijin to choose which prototype to model.

Most of the prototypes were the same. It just flip fopped. You have three main variations between 120-1 (the first vehicle) and 120-14 (the last vehicle).

Some tanks never received weight plates, being fire control test rigs only. Some recieved very little weight coverage and some received 3 layered plates on the turret, a ballast on the gun mantlet and a ballast on the hull.

The last one appears on what seems to be a singular M1E1, the long IPM1 Turret. Photo of it is provided two comments up, and it appears to survive as the gate tank at JSMC in Lima Ohio.

If any were to be added, it should be the upgun only Fire Control test rigs. The only issue with that though, is that the blowout panels would be useless. Most M1E1s were tested with the original 3 panel setup on the roof, combined with the trash door system for M1/IPM1 this lead to constant overpressures and failures during ammo detonation tests, meaning an accurately modeled M1E1 should actually die from an ammo cookoff 100% of the time.

I heard this variant was tested with an autoloader

An M1E1 turret was used to test the Western Design Bustle Loader in the late 1990s but saying the M1E1 tested it is incorrect.

Which one do you suggest? The IP or M1A0 turret?
